iPhone 5 Launch Could Be Held On Cupertino Campus

9/30/2011 09:18:00 AM - 0 comments
Reports are claiming that Apple’s iPhone 5 launch event is going to take place on their own home turf more so than the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts or other San Francisco venues which they usually use. The event is thought to be held on the 4th of October and at Apple’s Cupertino Campus.

No one knows the reason for this but one possibility is that schedules may be clashing. It is believed that Oracle has already booked the YBCA for October 4, which leaves Apple without their traditional venue. Another reason could be the fact that Apple need to be a little more flexible with their venue in case their launch date changes. There have been some reports that have suggested that the fifth generation handset might not be ready in time and that a staggered launch with a less dramatic iPhone 4S will be revealed first.

Apple could of course just be opting for a less dramatic event for the newly appointed Tim Cook to make his debut. He is expected to be taking center stage along with the iPhone 5 itself and we are sure that all eyes will be on his performance especially after what his predecessor has done.

Invitations for the launch event have not yet been issued so again this is rumor and speculation and we will have to wait to see what the official reports are when the time comes.

No Holidays For Apple Employees

9/28/2011 09:15:00 AM - 0 comments
According to a report published late last week, Apple Inc. is not allowing its employees to take any time off work during the second week of October. This could actually hint towards a possible iPhone 5 and iOS 5 launch during this time.

This news was announced on the AppleInsider and this report suggests that the people in Cupertino are gearing up for the launch of a new products or perhaps products, namely the iPhone 5 and iOS 5.
AppleInsider reported on their blog that Apple are denying requests for employee vacations during the second week in October which hints at the fact that the company are anticipating an influx of customers to its stores around that time related to the availability of the new iOS 5 and the fifth generation iPhone.

In some locations, vacation time has been block out from the 9th to the 15th of October. There are several independent reports that also indicate this and the strongest of these comes from Al Gore who was heard saying that the new iPhones are coming in October. All Things D’s which is by John Paczkowski claimed that Apple would be holding a media event on the 4th of October where the next generation iPhone would be announced by new CEO Tim Cook with a launch a week or so later.

Apple has also announced that they are resetting iCloud and iTunes Match data which is another hint that they are getting ready for iOS 5 and the iPhone 5.

There are reports that we might just see two new iPhones being launched with one being a low end iPhone 4 look-alike which will be aimed at people who can’t afford the aggressively priced one. Again until everything has been announced and the official launch date arrives we are pretty much still in the dark about everything but one thing is for sure, things are heating up and something is about to happen.

Apple really is getting ready for its latest launch and to cope with what is going to be a very busy period they have opened new online stores in four different countries across the world.

Redsn0w 0.9.9b1 Released Will Jailbreak iOS 5, 4.3.5, 4.3.3 and More

9/21/2011 09:45:00 AM - 0 comments
Redsn0w which has been developed by Musclenerd has been updated to version 0.9.9b1 and this will allow users to jailbreak iOS 5, 4.3.5, 4.3.3 and more. This new version brings some key improvements making it one of the most significant updates yet. If you are looking for a way to jailbreak your iDevice this could be exactly what you have been looking for. We must point out that this is a tethered jailbreak meaning that you must have your iDevice connected to a PC every time you boot up to ensure the jailbreak remains intact.

Redsn0w does a great job of jailbreaking any iOS device except for the iPad 2 but many users find that the process takes longer than it should because you have to download the entire .iPSW file that is specific to the device you want to jailbreak. With the latest update, MuscleNerd has addressed this issue and Redsn0w now detects and automatically downloads the essential files from Apple’s servers required to perform the jailbreak. It also stores these files in its cache which means you don’t have to download them again if you have to jailbreak your device again in the future. This new system is going to work for both tethered and untethered jailbreaks.

It is important to point out that the scan and store of essential files does not apply to the iOS 5 beta releases and those wishing to jailbreak iOS 5 beta will need to provide the full .iPSW files in order for it to work. There were a lot of fixes contained in this updated version of Redsn0w. Redsn0w 0.9.9b1 will jailbreak any device except for the iPad 2 which can be jailbroken on 4.3.3 using the JailbreakMe method.

Five New Exploits Found For iPad 2 And iPhone 5

9/19/2011 12:42:00 PM - 0 comments
Some fantastic new to report today. It seems that jailbreak hacker p0sixninja of the Chronic Dev Team has announced that five userland exploits have been discovered for the iPad 2 and it seems that this is strongly expected to be used in the next generation iPhone too which means a jailbreak could be imminent.

This news was revealed at the jailbreaking convention MyGreatFest. P0sixninja gave the announcement in which he stated that the iPad 2 and iPhone 5 can be jailbroken using five userland exploits which have been discovered over time. It is amazing that five exploits have been discovered and what is even better is that all these exploits are userland ones. P0sixninja has this to say, “it’s the record breaking number of exploits found.”

The userland exploits that have been discovered are all related to software. Hardware based exploits can be patched but a hardware revision is going to make any difference in this case.

This is great news and it means that the iPhone 5 and iOS 5 should get an untethered jailbreak sooner than expected. The exploits were discovered by the Chronic Dev Team and since the jailbreak that is expected to be announced soon will be userland, it will work on all iOS devices and on all exploit ready iOS versions. This could mean that we will see an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5 when the official launch is announced.

This is really great news and all the Chronic Dev Team are waiting for is the new iPhone 5 itself to see whether the exploits work or not. Let’s hope it’s good news as we’re sure the entire jailbreak community will be waiting for this.

Vodafone UK Reveals iPhone 5’s Colours and Memory Capacities

9/16/2011 10:32:00 AM - 0 comments
We all know that the official iPhone 5 launch is just around the corner now and carriers already have all the details about the next generation iPhone. Vodafone which is a popular European carrier has accidentally revealed the existence of a white and black iPhone 5 on their UK website including details about the memory capacities that the iPhone 5 will be available in.

The iPhone 5 was accidentally revealed on their product page for the Vodafone Sure Signal which is a signal boosted that is used in crowded areas to increase a phone’s signal. This page detailed the list of supported products which included the iPhone 5 32GB in white and black and also the iPhone 5 16GB in white and black.

We are sure that this mistake will be noted and pulled immediately and the company will surely say that it was just a typo or glitch on their page. With all the information that has come out on the iPhone 5 and including the fact that it is due for release in October this information is probably correct and just slipped out before the official launch was revealed.

What we do know from this however, is that the new iPhone 5 will come in both black and white models and that there might not be a 64GB version. With only weeks to go until we get all the official details it really does sound like what we have been reported on the iPhone 5 for the past couple of months now is more than likely going to be made official very shortly.

Flash Finally Comes To iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch Thanks To Adobe Flash Media Server 4.5

9/14/2011 09:30:00 AM - 0 comments
If you have an iOS device then you know how frustrating it is not to have flash ability. Apple have always been insistent on not having Adobe Flash support built into the iDevices citing that it would cause performance issues. Apple hasn’t changed their stance on this but Adobe has developed a new technology that could finally bring Flash content to all iOS devices.

Adobe announced a brand new version of the Adobe Flash Media Server a couple of days ago. This new product will allow developers to stream Flash content straight to a wide range of devices. Version 4.5 will finally enable users to play Flash content on the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad without any Flash add-on.

Instead of processing the Flash content locally on the device, all the content is now going to be rendered on a remote server and only then sent to browsers just like any regular HTTP stream. This is very similar to how the Skyfire browser does it.

Ben Rolling who is the vice president of development for AEG Digital Media stated that it is really import for businesses to be able to stream video to massive audiences especially during live events. Strong technology is important and in many cases vital if you have high profile events where you have audiences from across the world.

This new technology is similar to what other third party tools have done in the past to avoid Apple’s restriction. CloudBrowse which is an alternative browser for iOS allows certain Flash content to be played back. The advantage of Adobe’s implementation is the fact that it won’t require any software to be installed on the device.

Users do have to keep in mind that this is not a full implementation of Flash and it won’t provide any other technology. People will just be able stream video and they are hoping that eventually users will be able to play Flash games on their iPads too. Adobe Flash Media Server 4.5 is an alternative way for developers to implement video streams. This new tool will also only apply to websites that choose to implement it and won’t make existing Flash content magically work.

You can find out all the information you need by visiting the Adobe website and navigating to their products page.

Unlimited Data Plan For iPhone 5 with Sprint

9/12/2011 01:27:00 PM - 0 comments
The iPhone 5 is due to be announced any day now and according to numerous reports, four major US carriers will be getting this next generation iPhone. Sprint is one of these carriers and in a bid to lure customers onto their network they are going to be offering an unlimited data plan.

Unlimited data plans are great and they allow customers to pay a flat monthly fee for an unlimited amount of bandwidth. This is great for anyone that enjoys streaming videos or music on their phones or those who need to perform other connection intensive tasks.

Smartphones have become really popular and most carriers have discontinued their offerings of unlimited data plans so the offer for the new iPhone 5 with unlimited data from Sprint is great. This really is going to give Sprint a really competitive advantage and it will attract more users to their network which is something that they really need.

This report has come from an anonymous source so it should not be taken as gospel until official confirmation has been received. The iPhone 5 will be announced very shortly and once this happens we will know for sure exactly what carriers will be stocking it and what plans they will be offering. If Sprint are going to offer an unlimited data plan this really is going to be great news for all those people who are waiting to get their hands on the brand new iPhone 5. Until then though, we will just have to wait and see.

Your Very Own Repository On Cydia With iRepo

9/09/2011 09:03:00 AM - 0 comments
If you are a jailbreak fan and someone who uses Cydia then you will know that most of the jailbreak app and tweaks can be found on repositories. The BigBoss repo, for example, is where you can find the majority of tweaks available and everything is listed and it is very easy to navigate.

The problem with some of the larger repositories though is that they are over cluttered and browsing them to find something useful can be quite tedious. There are some smaller repositories too and many of these contain some key apps and specific niches.

Creating your own repo is a great way to keep a your own collection of apps. Sharing Cydia apps is fairly straightforward but you might find that some don’t comply with the allotted attachment e-mail space. The good news for you today is that there is an app to do this.

This app is called iRepo and it creates an easy way for you to set up a repo and host your own .debs from your iDevice. It is fairly easy to set up too and all you have to do is purchase iRepo from Cydia, from the BigBoss repository. This great app costs just 99 cents for a limited time so make sure you take advantage of it now while you still can. The price is sure to go up very soon.

What you will have to do is respring your device and open up iRepo. This app comes with a springboard icon so you can click on that to get to the configuration settings. Next you will have to think of a name for your repo, a label, description, codename and a short description of its contents. You can also add a password if you want to restrict access. Next all you have to do is hit save and then shuffle over to status and tap enable repo. Your very own repo will now be officially online and all you have to do now is fill it with some packages.

In order to do all this, you will of course need to have a jailbroken iPhone or iPad and there are plenty of tools available that will allow you to do just this.

Internal Memo Confirms Sprint iPhone 5 Will Arrive At Best Buy In October

9/07/2011 09:49:00 PM - 0 comments
At the moment, those wishing to purchase an iPhone can only do so with Verizon and AT&T. According to recent reports however, the next iPhone will be made available on both Sprint and T-Mobile. This was confirmed by a new leaked Best Buy employee memo as well as the scheduled installation of an Apple Fixture.

According to this memo, the iPhone 5 is expected to start taking pre-orders this month ahead of a launch that is set for the 1st of October. Although the launch date has not been confirmed this is of course more evidence that the announcement of the next iPhone is imminent. It also seems that the iPhone 5 will be made available on Sprint as well as AT&T and Verizon.

Best Buy has also scheduled an Apple Fixture Installation to take place on the 21st of October as well as a meeting for all the Best Buy Mobile managers on the 10th of October to discuss upcoming big release dates.

Rumors about the iPhone 5 have been circulating for quite some months now and according to most sources the new device is going to sport a larger screen, a faster dual A5 processor, an enhanced 8 megapixel rear facing camera and possibly a thinner unibody case design. The iPhone 5 is also expected to come with iOS 5 which should be launched later this month.

Jailbreak iOS 5 Beta 7 With Sn0wbreeze 2.8b7

9/05/2011 10:46:00 AM - 0 comments
Apple developers received the lastest iOS 5 firmware release a couple of days ago. This is iOS 5 Beta 7 and this new build contains several stability and security improvements to make iOS 5 even closer to release quality.

As you probably already know, Redsn0w 0.9.8b7 available for both Mac and Windows can already jailbreak iOS Beta 7. What you perhaps didn’t know, was that if you rely on a carrier unlock, iPhone developer and hacker iH8sn0w has just released Sn0wbreeze 2.8b7 for Windows which can jailbreak the latest version of iOS 5 and preserve the old baseband. Hacktivation is also supported on the iPhone 4 and 3GS which means they can be unlocked using Ultrasn0w or Gevey SIM.

This new version of Sn0wbreeze can also remove the Beta expiry time set by Apple and UDID check so that those who don’t have an Apple Developer account can install iOS 5 Beta 7 on any iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch. By default, iOS 5 Beta 7 will expire on October 20th.

As with all the current iOS 5 jailbreaks, Sn0wbreeze is also limited to a tethered boot only for devices except for old bootrom iPhone 3GS which is untethered. The iOS 5 jailbreak on the iPad 2 is not supported so unfortunately iPad 2 users won’t be able to make use of it.

Speech To Text On iPhone Thanks To New Jailbreak Tweak

9/02/2011 09:19:00 AM - 0 comments
There is a great new Cydia tweak that takes digital capability to a new level. If you have ever started typing a message, note or reminder only to find that it took too much effort then you will love the app that we want to tell you about today.

You have more than likely heard of Google’s Voice Recognition service where you talk and it converts your speech to text. Over at the BigBoss repo there is a new tweak called VoiceKeys. This new app allows you to dictate words, phrases and sentences on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch and Google’s Voice Recognition will then kick in and relay your speech into text. You will be required to speak relatively slowly but it does have great potential. Like most voice recognition software you have to train it to your voice so don’t be surprised if you get some rather weird sentences to begin with.

This is one of those apps that makes you determined to speak slower so that you can get a full sentence without having to type anything. After all, most people agree that while it might be quicker to type, it is easier to speak. A little bit of patience and practice initially and you will be able to speak instead of typing. This app is going to be perfect for those who like to take notes or reminders and all you’ll need now is your iDevice.

This great tweak is available over at the BigBoss repo and it’s free. It is really easy to operate and there are a couple of settings that you can play around with too. Why not give VoiceKeys a try today and see what you think. You will of course need a jailbroken iPhone if you want to use this Cydia app.
