Apple Testing Anti-Jailbreak on iBooks App – iBooks 1.2.1 Crippled For Jailbroken iOS Devices

No One expects that this will happen. Apple silently updated that iBooks app for iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch few days back in order to enhance its features. However, the latest iBooks app update seems embedded win anti-jailbreak code. There were reports that some jailbroken iOS device users who jailbreak their device using the Greenpois0n or Redsn0w jailbreak tool are having a hard time to open some EBooks using the revamped version of iBooks app. Meaning, if you jailbreak your iPhone, iPad, or your iPod Touch specifically with the recently released Greenpois0n or Redsn0w software jailbreak tool and update you iBook app to version 1.2.1, you won’t be able to open any of your purchased eBook.
Earlier today Comex, a key member of the Phone Dev Team, tweeted that he has found the root cause of the problem and is working on the fix. Comex explain:
“It seems that before opening a DRMed book, iBooks drops an improperly signed binary, tries to execute it, and if it works concludes that the device is jailbroken and refuses to open the book. This is what the binary does: int main() { return 42; }”
and you get the following error message:
“There is a problem with the configuration of your iPhone. Please restore with iTunes and reinstall iBooks.”
Later, MuscleNerd, the key member of iPhone Dev Team also confirmed the fix:
“@comex did an amazingly fast job repairing the damage Apple did to iBooks on JB platforms (fairplayd is next cat&mouse?)”
The iPhone Dev Team is planning to resolve this issue with the latest version of PwnageTool which is set to release anytime soon. Stay tuned, we will definitely inform you how to fix this issue.
