As most of expected, Verizon will be charging additional $20 a month for its Verizon iPhone 4 or the CDMA iPhone 4 Wi-Fi Personal Hotspot feature, the same as it does for smartphones under their contract. Verizon Wireless Executive Director of Corporate Communications Brenda Raney told Macworld that the company would be charging customers $20 per month for 2GB bandwidth monthly the iPhone mobile hotspot. That’s on top of their regular data plan.
MacWorld reports:
“Raney said that Verizon iPhone owners will be able to take advantage of the 3G wireless hotspot feature for an extra $20 per month on top of the iPhone’s required voice and data plans—that’s the same price that applies to current Verizon smartphone owners.”
The Wi-Fi Personal Hotspot was introduced by Verizon when they unveil the CDMA iPhone 4 couple of weeks ago, this feature was first introduced on Verizon-compatible iPhone. However, Apple is also planning to bring the Personal Hotspot to AT&T/GSM iPhone when they released the final version of iOS 4.3. On the other hand, AT&T subscribers currently pay the same amount for 2GB data wired tethering plan. But Verizon’s Personal Hotspot seems to be slightly better than the tethering plan that was being offered by AT&T.
In addition, Verizon also announced that a $30 unlimited data plan will be available (for now), this announcement clearly shows that Verizon Wireless is taking clear steps to differentiate themselves from AT&T.
