Best Gift Ideas For Valentine’s Day – A Verizon iPhone 4?

12/31/2010 09:41:00 AM - 0 comments

According to BusinessWeek, Apple may unveil the highly anticipated Verizon iPhone or the CDMA version of the iPhone 4 before Valentine’s Day. BusinessWeek cited “a person familiar with Apple’s plans who is not authorized to discuss them publicly” that Apple nor Verizon will be announcing the iPhone 4 in Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in 2011.

BusinessWeek reports:

"Apple’s introduction of an iPhone for use on Verizon’s network will come sometime after the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in early January, according to a person familiar with Apple’s plans who is not authorized to discuss them publicly."

Because of the involvement of Verizon, analysts speculated that that between one and six million AT&T customers will switch to Verizon once it become available. Apple’s business partnership with Verizon will definitely hurt AT&T who exclusively holding iPhone in US market for three years. However, BusinessWeek feels differently:

“Still, even if AT&T loses more than twice as many customers as Hodulik projects, the carrier will not suffer a fatal blow. If 6 million of its customers defect, the $6 billion in lost annual revenue would amount to about 10 percent of AT&T’s wireless sales in 2011, according to UBS projections. The $6 billion would be 4.8 percent of its total projected sales of $126 billion in 2011.”
Stay tuned with us. We will definitely give you an update about Verizon iPhone we get it from any trusted source.

iPhone 4 Goes Panoramic With Safari

12/31/2010 09:34:00 AM - 0 comments

Users of the iPhone 4 are in for a real treat because now they can get gyroscope powered panorama viewing in their Safari browser. It seems that the latest mobile version of Safari supports gyroscope powered HTML coding that actually allows iPhone 4 users to view panoramic photographs on the internet.

If you own an iPhone 4 or an iOS device that has a gyroscope and is running iOS 4.2 you will be able to test this out for yourself using the 360 Panorama app that has been released by Occipital. Occipital are the first company to take advantage of the new HTML coding that has been used in the latest version of Safari and along with the gyroscope feature of the iPhone 4 and the latest generation iPod Touch they allow users to explore any 360 Panorama photograph by spinning it around as if you were really there.

In the Occipital’s demo that they have also released you can see exactly what all the full is about and you can view the original photos from this demo on Twitpic or you can use Apple’s Maps app to find them.

This is a fantastic app and using the Safari panorama view you will be able to really view a virtual representation of any scene just as if you were really there. Occipital are calling this feature augmented reality but it is a lot more powerful than that. We suggest that you check it out for yourself to see what all the fuss is about and just how amazing this app can be. It is going to take the world of photography to a whole new level and there is a lot of talk about it.

This new Safari update and the additional HTML coding could lead the way for a lot more apps to come on stream but for the moment this 360 Panorama app is the only one available.

Skype Mobile Video Calling Now Available for iOS Devices over WiFi and 3G

12/30/2010 04:05:00 PM - 0 comments

Good news iPhone and Skype users. Just few days after we reported that Skype video-calling is coming to selected iOS device, now Skype for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch has received a major update bringing it up to version 3.0.

Skype app version 3.0 brings the highly-anticipated mobile video calling to iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and iPod Touch 4G. Skype mobile video calling is set to compete against Apple’s Facetime video chat. However, Skype has a bit advantage because users will be able to use both Wi-Fi and AT&T Inc.'s 3G cellular network. Apple’s Facetime is restricted to just WiFi only. Skype users who make video calls using 3G will get a bit data costs.

Some of notable key features of Skype version 3.0 for iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch include:

• Make Skype to Skype video calls on WiFi and 3G*
• Call Skype desktop users (Mac OS X or Windows) and other iPhone users.
• Two-way video calls supported on iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPod touch 4th gen.
• Receive only video supported on iPad and iPod touch 3rd gen, with no camera.
• Make video calls in portrait and landscape.
• Skype video calling requires iOS 4.0 or above.

Because of the sure success f the Skype video calling inn iOS-based device, some experts speculated that the company will also introduce the mobile video calling into Google’s Android and Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 handsets.

Skype app for iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch can be downloaded from the iTunes App Store.

GeoHot to Release a New Untethered Jailbreak Called Rubyra1n

12/30/2010 10:34:00 AM - 0 comments

It looks like that Gorge Hotz is back to offer us a new jailbreak tool to jailbreak iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, and AppleTVwit its new jailbreak tool called Rubyra1n. iPhone hacker genius George Hotz or most commonly known as GeoHot, who brought us the software jailbreak tool Blackra1n and Limera1n to jailbreak Apple’s iOS devices, discovered to have another domain registered under his name i.e Rubyra1n.com.

The new jailbreak tool called Rubyra1n is believed to be an untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1, and some jailbreakers speculated that this new tool was designed to jailbreak iPhone 5 or iOS 5.

According to Whois records, Blackra1n, Limera1n & Rubyra1n are registered under George Hotz. It looks like, Geohot registered Limera1n & Rubyra1n back in March, 2010. With that said, don’t expect a Rubyra1n Jailbreak anytime soon. Because, Limera1n exploit is capable of jailbreaking all current iOS Device. So, it seems, GeoHot is going to use Rubyra1n, for the Next Gen iPad [iPad 2] / Next Gen iPhone [iPhone 5 / CDMA iPhone].

It is expected that GeoHot’s new exploit will be released as soon as early 2011which is rumored to be the the time for Apple’s new iPad 2 tablet release. Stay tuned.

Apple 7-inch iPad Mini Spotted in the hand of Taiwanese Race Car Driver, Legit or Not?

12/30/2010 05:55:00 AM - 0 comments

The CEO of the Cupertino, California-based Apple Steve Jobs may have openly discussed how he hate the 7-inch tablets, however Jobs’ opinion regarding the 7-inch tablet hasn’t stop a rumor that an iPad Mini is in development stage and will be released in 2011.

A new iPad leaks courtesy of Taiwanese pop star and race car driver named Jimmy Lin, who posted a picture of him holding the so-called 7-inch iPad Mini in his right hand next to its popular 9.7 –inch sibling. However, the image posted at Lin’s blog is bit blurry, so it’s bit hard to determine if the iPad Mini is legit or not. The Taiwanese actor even claims that the small version of the iPad, complete with iOS, is his “new toy iPad Mini”.

So far, Lin remained mum regarding the legitimacy of the iPad Mini. But, some experts believes that the iPad Mini is a clone due to the fact that it came from the “clone capital of the world” who held accountable for almost all iPad and iPhone clones we see for sale on the Internet in black markets.

On the other hand, there were reports that apple will release the upgraded 2nd-generation iPad in spring 2011. According to rumors, the Apple iPad 2 will sport a front-facing camera to support Facetime video calling, a rear-facing snapper and a 3 axis gyroscope for gaming. There are also reports that it will be geared with MicroSD and USB connectivity, an iPhone-like Retina Display, and dual-core processor along with the A4 chip to enhance its functionality.

How to hack 6th-Gen iPod Nano – Remove Apps and Add Spaces Using Springboard Hack [Video]

12/29/2010 04:29:00 PM - 0 comments

We had reported yesterday that a developer named James Whelton of NanoHack.me has managed to hack the 6th-generation iPod Nano. Now, the whelton is back to give us more news and info regarding the hacked iPod Nano and even give us amn easy-to-follow step by step guide on how to remove apps and add blank spaces to the 6th-gen iPod Nano by using a simple Springboard hack.

From the NanoHack.me:

This tutorial enables you to remove apps from the 6G iPod Nano Springboard and insert blank spaces into the springboard. The iPod Nano in this running the current 1.0 firmware and is Windows formatted, have not yet tested this with a Mac formatted one. Its fairly basic and simple, but shows that booting with a user modded file is possible and is a nice proof of concept and is the first small ‘hack’ as such for the new iPod Nano.

The guide provided by whelton will allow users to remove apps and add blank spaces instead to the springboard. iPod Nano is Windows formatted. Due to the fact that a hacker bypass the cache comparison of the iPod Nano there are huge possibility that we will be soon hearing about how to jailbreak the iPod Nano and install custom apps. You can follow the posted YouTube below on how to hack the 6th-gen iPod Nano or you can follow a well-detailed hack tutorial posted on this link.

iPhone 5 and iPad 2 to Sports Dual-Core Processors and A4 Chips to Compete Against RIM and Android Tablet - Ashok Kumar

12/29/2010 01:39:00 PM - 0 comments

Rodman & Renshaw analyst Ashok Khumar has released a very interesting analysis and he claims that the Cupertino, California-based Apple will incorporate a dual-core processor chip on the forthcoming iPad 2 and iPhone 5 to compete against its tough rivals Research In Motion’s BlackBerry PlayBook and Android 2.2 Gingerbread based Motorola tablet. The Rodman & Renshaw analyst claims:

"Apple is on track to refresh the iPad by March and iPhone by late summer. A key component upgrade across these platforms will be a dual-core processor featuring a pair of 1GHz ARM Cortex A9 cores."

Furthermore, the currently available iPad table is geared with Apple’s A4 chip, which runs at 1GHz. If the prediction of Khumar that the iPad 2 will sport a dual-core processor turns out to be accurate then it would mean that the future iPhone and iPod Touch will also get dual cores along with the same A4 chip.

Kumar also shared his opinion regarding the widely speculated Verizon iPhone. He wrote:

"iPhone volumes could also be maintained at the 15 million/quarter level through next year. The launch at Verizon could support an incremental 8 million units."

The combination of both dual-core processors and Apple’s A4 chip will definitely bring more powerful and revolutionary utilities to iDevices. Apple is expected to launch the iPad 2 in March 2011 and then iPhone 5 will touch down in June.

6th Gen iPod Nano Hacked: Jailbreak Coming Soon? [Video]

12/29/2010 10:35:00 AM - 0 comments

It looks like that we will witness a new jailbreak scene. Our affiliate site, http://news.ziphone.org, reported yesterday that Apple’s 6th-generation iPod Nano was hacked by a hacker/developer named James Whelton. Developer Whelton successfully bypass the iPod Nano’s cache comparison and he also manage to create blank space with the installation of Springboard hack.

Despite the fact that Whelton has not yet jailbroken the device as well as there is no root access on the iPod Nano, there’s a huge possibility that users will be allowed to add games, movies, and calendars, and other useul apps into their simple music playing device.

From Whelton’s blog:

The springboard hack is just the removal of a app and creation of a blank space. Not that amazing, but whats important is the bypass of Nano’s cache comparison, which compares any modded SB file and reverts it if it doesn’t like it, this opens up the possibility of hacking and modding, while not adding bootloaders or any of that fun stuff.

Next is the discovery in some of the device’s plists of reference to support of Movies, TV Shows, Apps, Games, vCards, Calender events and so on, with a few other cool things like a passcode lock. With the bypass I figured out, I hope to enable these pretty soon. It seems like the OS is a rehashed version of the previous Nano’s OS.

Currently, Whelton plans to create a bootloader on the device to enhance the functionality of the Nano. This new hacks scene are very interesting to see. I know there are lot of iPod Nano users wondering what and how they can play with their device by injecting new features. Stay tuned.

It seems that the much awaited unlock for the iPhone running iOS 4.2.1 is almost here. Popular iPhone developer and hacker by the name of iH8Sn0w has just released information on his upcoming project which is Sn0wBreeze 2.2. This new and improved software application will allow users to unlock their iPhone 3G, 3GS or 4 that is running iOS 4.2.1.

This iphone unlock too is still in development mode and according to this developer users will be able to unlock iOS 4.2.1 with the help of the Ultrasn0w unlock too. This developer even posted a sneak peak of what he has planned on his twitter account the other day but information on the release date has yet to be released.

This new and improved version of Sn0wBreeze is expected to come complete with a brand new option called “Baseband Preservation Mode” and this will allow users to restore their iDevices to iOS 4.2.1 without having to upgrade their baseband. It sounds amazing and I’m sure there will be plenty of iPhone users waiting anxiously for its release. There is no news as yet as to when the new Sn0wBreeze unlock tool will be released but we can guarantee you that as soon as we hear anything here you will be the first to know. It really does feel like the wait is almost over and you will be able to unlock your iPhone 4.2.1 very shortly.

Redsn0w 0.9.7b3 Untethered Jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1 Released, Fixes More Bug, Facetime, Winterboard Themes, and Embedded Videos in iTunes

12/28/2010 04:59:00 PM - 0 comments

The iPhone Dev Team had successfully rolled out the Redsn0w 0.9.7b1 that implements the “backup plan” for untethered jailbreak for Apple’s iOS 4.2.1 on iPhone 4,iPad and iPod Touch 4G, which is intended for beta testers. Due to some bug issues, the Dev Team releases two new beta versions of Redsn0w, the Redsn0w 0.9.7b2 and Redsn0w 0.9.7b3.

The revamped version of Redsn0w 0.9.7 was intended to fix the reported bug issues that most jailbreakers encountered after the untethered their iOS device. The Redsn0w 0.9.7b2 was released to fix the native app crashes and the Redsn0w 0.9.7b3 was launched to address bugs related to non-GUI programs such as Facetime, Winterboard themes, and embedded videos in iTunes.

From the iPhone Dev Team:

The third beta is now available (testers ONLY please!). This version extends the fix made in beta2 over to the non-GUI programs too (like the daemons that handle media content). That should cover things like Facetime, Winterboard themes, and embedded videos in iTunes. If you had trouble using the usbmuxd in previous betas, please wait until we incorporate that into redsn0w itself (i.e. don’t bother trying this beta3, just wait for the integration).

We would like to again emphasize that the Redsn0w 0.9.7 beta is intended foe beta testers only. The beta version of Redsn0w 0.9.7 is currently available only for Mac OS X users, Windows users will for the Dev team to release the final or berta version of their new untethered jailbreak. You can download the Redsn0w 0.9.7 beta 1 beta2, and beta 3 from this link. Stay tuned.

iH8snow’s Sn0wbreeze 2.2 Reintroduces “Baseband Preservation Mode” To Prepare iPhone 4, 3GS, and 3G, To Unlock Using Ultrasn0w

12/28/2010 12:48:00 PM - 1 comments

iPhone hacker iH8sn0w the primary developer of the Sn0wbreeze jailbreak tool for iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch, like the iPhone Dev Team’s PwnageTool for Mac has announced that he is working on a strengthened and new version of its jailbreak tool, the Sn0wbreeze 2.2 which will come with Baseband Preservation Mode that will allow iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS,and iPhone 3G users to preserve the baseband of their device even if the firmware is updated to iOS 4.2.1 which will allow them to unlock their iDevice using the latest version of Ultrasn0w. See the screenshot above.

The “Baseband Preservation Mode” was first implemented in TinyUmbrella to provide an ability to iPhone 4 users to preserve the baseband of their device while updating to iOS 4.1. Unfortunately, the Cupertino, California-based Apple already figured it out that’s why the Baseband Preservation Mode of TinyUmbrella doesn’t work on its new operating system, the iOS 4.2.1. But, iH8snow finds a way and reintroduced the method on its forthcoming Sn0wbreeze 2.2.

As of now there is no ETA of Sn0wbreeze 2.2 yet, but iH8snow is planning to release the full version of Sn0wbreeze 2.2 very soon. Stay tuned.

Jailbreakers Encounters Major Bug after they Untethered Jailbreak their iOS Device using Redsn0w 0.9.7b1

12/28/2010 08:47:00 AM - 0 comments

The iPhone Dev Team has finally released to the public the highly anticipated Redsn0w software jailbreak, beta version, tool that promise to bring permanent untethered jailbreak to iPhone 4, iPad, and fourth-generation iPod Touch running iOS 4.2.1.

However, since the Redsn0w is still a beta, some jailbreakers were experiencing some serious bug problems after they “untethered” their iOS device. So it is advisable to stay away from Redsn0w 0.9.7, especially if you are not an expert.

If you are wondering about what kind of problems you might encounter when you untether jailbreak your iPhone 4, iPad, and iPod Touch 4G using Reds0w 0.9.7b1, here are some of the known bugs that have been reported:

• Bluetooth is disabled
• iPod player doesn’t work on the iPhone 4 or the iPad
• Application Switcher will crash your iPhone
• YouTube won’t work
• Videos from the camera roll won’t play
• AirPlay won’t work
• Some App Store apps not working

Despite the bug issues, the iPhone Dev Team still did a tremendous job for developing an untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1 and there’s no doubt that they will release a much better method very soon. Stay tuned.

Update: The Dev-Team releases two new beta version of Redsn0w 0.9.7 to address the bug issues.

Skype Video Call For iPhone

12/27/2010 06:11:00 PM - 0 comments

According to all the rumours that are circulating it seems that Skype have finally developed a video call mobile app that will be made available for the iPhone, iPod Touch and the iPad. This is something that iPhone users have been waiting on for quite some time now and it is probably going to provide a lot of competition with the Apple FaceTime app which is currently available with the iPhone 4.

If Skype does release this video calls app it really will give FaceTime a run for its money on several different levels. The Skype video calls app will be available via 3G and Wi-Fi whereas the FaceTime app is only available via Wi-Fi. The Skype video calls function can be used by anyone with a pc or mac and it also has a screen sharing function. According to all the rumours that are circulation and if they can be believed we should see the new Skype video calls app being released early in 2011.

It seems that Skype and Apple are racing against each other to be the first ones to release a video chat feature for the iPad. The FaceTime app that Apple currently supports is not compatible with the iPad so if Skype does launch its app early in 2011 they could in fact beat Apple to it.

The Skype video calls feature is only going to work on iOS 4.0 and higher and it will be compatible with the iPhone 3GS, the iPhone 4, iPod Touch 3rd and 4th generations and according to rumours the iPad as well. If all goes to plan this really will be a very exciting launch and one that a lot of iPad owners are sure to be very interested in. It will allow them to turn the iPad into a mobile communication device too.

Download Redsn0w 0.9.7b1 Untethered Jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1 for iPhone 4, iPad, and iPod Touch 4G

12/27/2010 08:20:00 AM - 0 comments

As promised, the iPhone Dev-Team have just rolled out their “backup plan”, which is the redsn0w version 0.9.7b1, for untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1. The just released revamped Redsn0w, which is currently available in beta version, will provide you an ability to untethered jailbreak your iPhone 4, iPad, and fourth-generation iPod Touch running iOS 4.2.1.

As of now, the iPhone Dev-team is asking some help to some Mac users who is willing to test their new method. However, due to the fact that the new Redsn0w untethered jailbreak is in beta version and it was designed for testing some jailbreakers reportedly experiencing some technical problems after they “untethered” their iOS device, these include disabling Bluetooth, no AirPlay support, mo YouTube support, as well as most apps from the iTunes App Store won't work

Below are some of the notes from the iPhone Dev Team:

• This is a beta tester program. It’s not a general release! Things can go very wrong, so please don’t even consider testing if you have pictures or other media on your device that you haven’t backed up!
• For the same reason, please don’t participate if you rely on the ultrasn0w carrier unlock. Wait for the final version!
• Until we fix some sandbox issues with bluetooth, the bluetooth functionality is disabled.
• This very first beta1 is limited to iPhone4, iPad, and iPod touch 4G.
• Cydia must have your 4.2b3 SHSH blobs saved on file. (As we approach a general release, we’ll provide a way to let you use locally saved hashes too).
• You must already have the usbmuxd software installed and running on your Mac (this requirement will eventually go away too). The correct invocation of the relay is just as that page says: “./tcprelay.py -t 22:2222”. If the relay isn’t installed or running correctly by the time the redsn0w ramdisk has started, you’ll need to restore to stock FW again to try it again. Please test it beforehand to save yourself some time!
• Please leave all feedback in the comments below (we really need your feedback to help develop it into a stable release!)

You can download the redsn0w 0.9.7b1 untethered jailbreak using this link.

Skype Mobile Video Calling Coming to iPhone 4 and iPod Touch 4G In 2011

12/27/2010 06:14:00 AM - 1 comments

Well, it seems like iPhone users are going to have an awesome 2011. It looks like the largest VoIP company Skype has decided to enter the world of mobile video calling. Tech site Engadget is reporting that Skype is planning to bring Skype video calling into mobile platform and the good news is that the company will first introduced it on Apple’s iOS devices, specifically iPhone 4 and the fourth-generation iPod Touch.

According to Engadget, the company announcement will be made at the Consumer Electronics Show that will be held in Las Vegas in early January.

It's known that Skype reps will be taking part in a panel discussion at CES called "Video-Calling Gets Ready For Primetime" and they have also released a question and answer from in response to one of their users. The user asked on how to make a Skype video call using their Phone. Skype decided to answer the question with the following:

How do I make video calls with Skype for iPhone?

The following questions and answers will help you get started with using Skype video calls on your iPhone.

To make video calls with your contacts, you will need an iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, 3rd generation iPod touch, 4th generation iPod touch or an iPad. Your contacts will only be able to see you if your device has a camera. Make sure your device is running iOS 4.0 or above and that you are using Skype for iPhone 3.0 or above.

The contacts you are calling must be using one of the following Skype clients:

* Skype for Windows version 4.2 and above
* Skype for Mac OS X version 2.8 and above
* Skype for iPhone 3.0 and above

You can make Skype video calls by using a WiFi or 3G connection*. The quality of the video will depend upon the available network conditions.

*Additional data charges may apply. Check with your operator for details.

If you have an iPhone or iPod touch with two cameras – front and rear – you will be able to switch between them during a Skype video call. If you have an iPhone 3GS it will always use the rear camera.

If you turn your device into landscape mode, the camera picture will automatically rotate.

In both portrait and landscape mode double tapping anywhere on your screen will zoom the picture to take up the full extent of the screen. Double tapping again will take the picture back to its normal size.

While on a Skype video call the sound will always be played through the loudspeaker, unless a headset is plugged into the device.

During a video call tap your screen to display the camera and microphone controls. Tap and hold down the microphone button to put the call on hold. To resume the call, simply tap thehold symbol on the screen.

Yes, at any time during a Skype video call you can choose to turn off the video. Tap theCamera button and select the No Cameraoption. To turn the video back on tap theCamera button again and then tap the camera you want to switch on.

When your iPhone is processing a lot of video its CPU (Central Processing Unit) has to work very hard and makes the iPhone become warm to the touch. You will experience the same thing if you stream videos through applications like Netflix or YouTube.

Yes, you will be able to receive screen shares from people using Skype for Windows or Mac OSX. You cannot share what is on the screen of your iPhone with other people and you cannot receive a screen share from another iPhone user.

No, you will be switched to audio only, as Skype for iPhone does not support group video calling.

The quality of the video you send and receive from your iPhone will depend upon the quality and bandwidth available on the WiFi or 3G network you are connected to. For best results, make sure you have nothing else running that might use up your bandwidth.

The forthcoming Skype mobile video calling system would go in face-to-face with Apple's built-in FaceTime video-calling on the iPhone 4. And it would be just in time for the new iPad, which is expected to have an HD camera.

iPhone Dev Team’s Redsn0w Untethered Jailbreak For iOS 4.2.1 Coming Very Soon, Testers Wanted

12/26/2010 05:05:00 PM - 0 comments

Couple of days ago we informed you that Comex’s untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1 on iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch may not be released before Christmas. But the good thing is the notorious iPhone Dev Team has made an announcement recently that they are planning to launch an updated version of Redsn0w jailbreak tool that implements the “backup plan” for iOS 4.2.1 untethered jailbreak for all iOS device over the Christmas weekend. However, before releasing the updated RedSn0w to the public, the iPhone Dev Team is asking for some help to check out the latest version of RedSn0w. The Dev Team has released the following statement from its official blog:

Over the Christmas weekend we’ll be releasing a version of redsn0w that implements the “backup plan” to the 4.2.1 untethered jailbreak. We’re seeking your help to test this redsn0w and find any bugs before we do a general release!

(If you have an iPhone 3G, or an old-bootrom ipt2g or iPhone 3GS, you already have an untethered jailbreak! Just use the latest public redsn0w.)

To keep things manageable, this will be a Mac-only test program. We also request that any volunteers *NOT* need the ultrasn0w unlock (in case things go very wrong).

Right now, the “backup plan” requires that you have the 4.2b3 IPSW on your Mac, and that Cydia has your 4.2b3 SHSH hashes. Please don’t pirate that 4.2b3 IPSW! (We’re also working on a way that this technique might apply to all those with 4.1 IPSWs, but that’s not the first goal right now.) If you fit all the above qualifications, please follow @redsn0w_testers ontwitter for announcements, and use the comments section here for feedback. Thanks very much for your help, and Happy Holidays!

As always, we’ll definitely keep you posted as soon as the new version of Redsn0w jailbreak tool has become available. Stay tuned.

Untethered Jailbreak For iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch May Not Be Available For Christmas

12/24/2010 11:33:00 AM - 0 comments
We had reported previously that the iPhone hacker Comex had made an announcement that he will release a permanent untethered jailbreak for iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch that runs on iOS 4.2.1 before Christmas. In addition, the iPhone Dev Team front man MuscleNerd has also announced that Comex is working on a more efficient userland-based untethered jailbreak method for iOS 4.2.1.

However, according to Comex latest tweet, he may not be able to complete the untethered jailbreak for all iOS device before Christmas.

I think I'm going to miss my Christmas deadline...

But don’t you worry, because the iPhone Dev Team already has a backup plan and it may be incorporated with the new version of Redsn0w that has a capability to untethered jailbreak in just a single click. Stay tuned.

New Antid0te Jailbreak For iPhone

12/24/2010 09:17:00 AM - 0 comments

New jailbreak tools are coming on stream that will allow iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users to jailbreak their iOS devices. A new German hacker by the name of Stefan Esse has been working on a new jailbreak tool for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch that is being called Antid0te.

There are a lot of people out there who are wary of jailbreaking their iDevices because of security concerns. They are worried about having their private data leaked. It is reported that during many of the jailbreak processes users have to change their default root password and this procedure makes their jailbroken device unsecure.

According to reports, Stefan has found a new jailbreak method that will allow users to securely jailbreak their iOS devices. Stefan has been working with the ASLR (address space layout randomization) which is a security protocol. According to him his new Antid0te jailbreak tool will allow users who have a jailbroken iPhone to create their own set of dyld_shared_cache files that will have a completely different library load. This will be better than that existing ASLR which exists on Snow Leopard because different applications will be able to use different shared caches and this will of course mean different load addresses.

Work is continuing on this new jailbreak which will be available for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch so be sure to stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.

SHAtter Bootroom Jailbreak Exploit To Jailbreak Next Generation iOS Devices Has Been Leaked

12/23/2010 05:59:00 PM - 0 comments

The SHAtter bootrom exploit to jailbreak the next generation iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch has been leaked and, unfortunately, there’s a huge possibility that it is already reached the Cupertino, California-based Apple. Meaning, Apple will patch both Limera1nexploit and SHAtter exploit when the company release a new iOS device.

iPhone hacker and the main man of the Chronic Dev Team who is responsible for Greenpois0n jailbreak tool is pointing a blame finger to Musclenerd of the iPhone Dev Team. MuscleNerd of course is strongly denying the accusation, defending himself saying that there were around were like fifteen to twenty others in the room when the SHAtter code was posted pod2g. MuscleNerd says that any one of these guys could have leaked the SHAtter exploit.

Here’s the tweet exchanges between p0sixninja and Musclenerd:

p0sixninja: @MuscleNerd no, the version leaked had one small change I did right before it was given to YOU and YOU only!!

p0sixninja: @MuscleNerd pod2g gave it to you in PM

p0sixninja: @MuscleNerd dude, you leaked it and tried to frame me to get pod2g to leave cdev, I’ve already heard it all

p0sixninja: SHAtter is burned, and now everyone knows why. Oh well, untether bootrom exploit is still on the way

MuscleNerd: @p0sixninja you never gave me a version

MuscleNerd: @p0sixninja please stop trying to bring up drama again. You always do this when you’re otherwise empty-handed.

MuscleNerd: @p0sixninja I believe one of the 15 people in that room leaked SHAtter because GP didn’t work on Mac at that point

MuscleNerd: @p0sixninja lol yes, that’s exactly why I would leak something that helps me more than anyone (unlock depends on jailbreak). Please think.

Limera1n Bootroom Exploit Still Works on Newer iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch

12/21/2010 06:14:00 PM - 0 comments

Yesterday a forum member over at ModMyi fhas started a new thread and he claims that he was unable to jailbreak his newly purchased iPad tablet that runs on iOS 4.2.1 using Redsn0w jailbreak tool, which is based on GeoHot’s Limera1n bootroom exploit. This thread has led to believe that the Cupertino, Califrnia-based apple has patched the Limera1n Exploit in newer iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches.

A ModMyi forum speculated that Apple has patched the exploit in newer iDevices and he wrote the following statement:

I made a trip to the Apple Store today to get an iPad for my old lady (Christmas present). She told me she’d love it jailbroken, so I sat down in front of my computer to redsn0w this 4.2.1 iPad.

One problem–redsn0w 0.9.6b6 could not upload a pwned iBSS (hanged at the white screen on OS X, upload timed out and rebooted into jailed state with Windows).

Furthermore, the device constantly stalls when attempting to dump its bootrom. This leads me to believe the injection vector used via USB has been patched in DFU mode.

Case in point: Any iOS device with a serial number xx050 (this week) or higher might be unable to be jailbroken via the limera1n exploit. Slightly older devices may be invulnerable as well.

To clear things out, two of key figures that plays a integral role in the entire iPhone jailbreak scene, MuscleNerd and Comex, has made a confirmation that the Limera1n bootrom exploit still works perfectly on all iOS devices, both old and new batches, and moreover bootrom is not changed in newer iOS devices.

Here is the reply of MuscleNerd to an iPhone user over twitter:

MuscleNerd: @Tweror the 2 times Apple has fixed bootrom so far, the bootrom version # changed too. This is still showing 574.4, so I wouldn’t worry.

From Comex regarding the changed bootrom:

daud250: @comex hey can you confirm about the Apple bootrom pacth thing.?

Comex: @daud250 almost certainly fake

This only mean that GeoHot’s Limera1n bootrom exploit still works efficiently on new batches of iOS devices. So, if you are planning to buy a new iOS device this Christmas, or someone gives you a new iPhone, you can jailbreak your device using the Redn0w to get an tethered jailbreak on iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4, iPhone 3GS (new bootrom) and untethered on iPhone 3GS (old bootrom), iPhone 3G and iPod Touch (Non-MC models). Or you can wait for a few weeks till the iPhone dev team release the untethered jailbreak for all iOS device that runs on iOS 4.2.1.

Apple iPad Chip Maker Imagination Technologies Acquires 3D Graphics Developer To Bring Eye Popping 3D Images In iOS Devices

12/21/2010 12:48:00 PM - 0 comments

The Hertfordshire-based Apple iPad chip maker Imagination Technologies has made an announcement regarding its second largest US acquisition in a month. The Imagination Technology has inked a deal to acquire Caustic Graphics Inc for $ 27 million to offer high-quality 3D graphics for smartphones. The acquisition agreement comes less than a month after the company buy out the US-based HelloSoft For up to $47 million to enahance the company’s video and voice-over internet protocol products and expand its WiFi offering.

TThe US- based Caustic Graphics Inc. was known for developing real-time interactive 3Dimages using the revolutionary ray tracing graphics technology, that has a capability to bring high-quality, ultra clear, and photorealistic 3D graphics in the future iOS devices. There is huge possibility that the ray tracing technology could soon be applied in future iOS devices, such as iPhone 5 and iPad 2.

According to the company:

“Ray tracing is a key additional technology that traditionally has been regarded as the exclusive domain of specialized markets and non real-time applications. We intend to change that.”

“Our vision is to enable cinema quality computer graphics at new cost and power consumption design points. We are excited at the prospect of becoming part of the Imagination team as we bring ray tracing to a much broader base, and utilize their extensive resources and partnerships to bring our technology to every consumer screen.”

Currently, an Imagination Technologies graphics processor called PowerVR SGX is included in Apple’s custom A4 chip that powers the iPhone 4, iPad, iPod Touch, as well as the AppleTV 2G.

Surprisingly, Hashim has confirmed that the unlock tool for iPhone 4 will be release in public before the 16th of January, 2011.

(In Arabic) Gerges2001: @sherif_hashim mn el a5r keda ,, el gish bta3y ibd2 ioom 16-1 ,, hal72 el unlock lel iphone 4 wala eih el kallam ???

(English Translation) Gerges2001: @sherif_hashim I’m going to perform military service by January 16, will I get the unlock before this date?

Is Your iPhone Spying On You?

12/20/2010 12:49:00 PM - 0 comments

It has been brought to the attention of the media that there are some iPhone apps that are actually spying on people. Did you know that more than half of the programs and games that are made available for smartphones actually send data back to the company once they have been downloaded? This information was discovered by a study that was carried out.

In this study 101 applications were tested and if was found that 56 of these apps actually transmitted the phones individual number to a private company and this is known as the Unique Device Identifier or UDID. 47 of the apps tested actually sent the phone’s location to the private company and 5 of the apps send information such as age, gender and other personal information. All the details were printed in the Daily Mail.

Some of the apps tested include Angry Birds and Shazam. Shazam actually comes pre-installed on the iPhone. This study also reported that there is more private information about users sent via the iPhone than the Android and this is being highlighted especially considering that both companies who produce these phones have promised not to let these practices happen.

This research was carried out in the US but I’m sure it applies worldwide. Research that was carried out by the Wall Street Journal found that smartphone users have no way of stopping this tracking that is happening behind the scenes.

Pandora which is a very popular music app was found to be sending gender, location, age and the phone ID to a string of different advertising networks. I’m sure users didn’t agree to this when they began using this app. If you use the popular game called Paper Toss you are actually giving your phone’s ID number to at least five different advertising companies. There are more than 300,000 apps available in the iTunes App store and if you use them you could be giving out your private information without being aware of it.

This means increased opportunities for Canadian publishers and authors and increased access to titles. Apple have also agreed to provide assistance to Canadian publishers with ebook creation and enhancement.

There has been a limited version of the iBookstore available in Canada but this only offered US based paid titles and public domain works so the news of an official Canadian iBookstore is a big boost and one that is sure to be welcoming by all publishers and authors.

In other news it has also been reported that Canadian carrier Rogers is now unlocking iPhones for all their customers who have finished their contracts or bought an unsubsidized handset. This new policy will allow customers to unlock their iPhones for $50 plus any applicable reports.

SHAtter Jailbreak Tool to Jailbreak future iOS was Leaked on the Internet

12/19/2010 06:35:00 AM - 0 comments

One of the most important component of a jailbreak tool the SHAtter exploit to jailbreak the future iOS has been leaked by some unknown person or group released it on the World Wide Web Internet allowing the Cupertino, California-based iPhone maker Apple to fix it in the next iOS firmware update.

Here’s what Comex said on Twitter:

“Someone leaked it [SHAtter exploit] on pastie or something; nobody knows who; it got taken down but some people have copies”

Moments after they discover that the Shatter was leaked members of the Chronic Dev Team and iPhone Dev Team responded via Twitter and promised to take action regarding the issue.

“We will issue takedowns and prosecute to the fullest extent anyone releasing unauthorized copies of our code, exploit or not”

The scary part is the possibility that the SHAtter exploit could reach the Apple CEO Steve Jobs and thus Apple patched it up in their next iOS update. If this happens the entire jailbreaking community will need to wait for a long time till the Dev Team discovers a new security hole in the next major iOS release to jailbreak it for us.

Cydia Mac App Store To Be Released

12/17/2010 09:46:00 AM - 0 comments

Cydia is the name of the unofficial app store where customers can get access to a multitude of non-Apple approved apps. It is available to anyone who has a jailbroken iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad. Cydia is more than just an app store though and it will allow you to do much more including saving your iPhone’s SHSH blobs and unlocking your iOS device.

Apple is planning on launching a Mac App Store in January 2011 and according to reports there will also be a Cydia Mac App Store being released too. You won’t have to jailbreak your Mac Computer and you can already do whatever you like with it and install all the apps you want whether approved by Apple or not so why do users need a Cydia Mac App Store?

I’m sure when Apple launch their official Mac App Store in January they are not going to allow all the Mac OS X apps to be added to it. It makes sense that Cupertino will try to ensure that they release a tightly controlled Mac App Store just like they have with the iOS App Store and this is why a Cydia Mac App Store will be created and it will have all the apps that don’t make it into the Apple store first time round.

Cydia will also probably allow all the things that Apple doesn’t want in its official Mac App Store such as demos, free trials and in-app payments. Cydia will also allow you to download some of the apps that are rejected by Apple. There isn’t any official information about the Cydia for Mac users as yet but as soon as this information becomes available we will be sure to let you know.

Apple Allows iOS Jailbreak

12/15/2010 02:40:00 PM - 0 comments

Apple has done something very shocking; they have decided to disable the jailbreak detection API in iOS 4.2. The reason as to why Apple has done this has not been disclosed but speculation is mounting that they have become tired of the constant battle between Cupertino and hackers when it comes to jailbreaking and unlocking the iPhone. It has always been that no matter what measures Apple has put in place hackers have always found a way to jailbreak the iDevices.

When Apple launched iOS 4.0 they added a new API that was able to detect jailbreaks but now only six months later they have removed it with the release of iOS 4.2. The reason has not been disclosed and the removal was done silently.

There are plenty of jailbreak tools available to help jailbreak any iOS device including the iPhone, iPod Touch and the iPad. These jailbreak tools have all been developed by hackers and will void your iDevice’s warranty but they are in fact no longer illegal.

Jailbreaking and unlocking are now legal procedures in the USA.
Now I know you are probably wondering why Apple removed the API that would help developers to check whether or not an iOS device had been jailbroken. We actually have no idea why they did this, maybe now that it’s legal to do so they don’t want to waste their time. Who knows, they might even be looking at implementing an even better solution to detect jailbroken devices.

I’m sure there will be more information released about this whole iOS API jailbreak removal and as soon as we hear anything we will be sure to let you know. There are plenty of iPhone jailbreak and unlock tools coming in the future and if you own an iPhone 4 running iOS 4.2.1 keep your eyes peeled as there is sure to be an unlock solution released anytime soon.

White iPhone 4 To Arrive In Spring

12/08/2010 09:57:00 AM - 0 comments

If the rumours are to be believed then the long awaited release of Apple’s White iPhone 4 could be sooner than you think. It is being reported that the long awaited White iPhone 4 could be hitting the shelves in Spring of 2011.

This news comes via the Mac enthusiast website 9to5 Mac which said that they have uncovered US Apple Store signs that state that the White iPhone will be made available in Spring 2011. This delay could actually see the White iPhone being released just a couple of months before the new iPhone 5 is unveiled.

In July Apple released a press release stating that the white model of the iPhone 4 had proved to be more challenging to manufacture than they had originally expected and as a result of this they would not be able to make them available until later in the year.

There were a number of problems with the iPhone 4 since its release with the antenna being one of the most talked about. I wonder if Apple held off on releasing the white model of the iPhone 4 until they made sure that all the problems were out of the way.

Either way, it looks like we might finally get the chance to see the white iPhone early next year. There is nothing official as yet but as soon as an official statement has been released from Apple we will be sure to let you know.

The popular iPhone 4 black model is still available and is a great choice. It was only launched in June 2010 and it has some great features such as FaceTime video calling, Retina Display, a 5 megapixel camera and HD video recording. There is so much that you can do with this smartphone and with unlocks and jailbreaks available it really is a great choice.

iOS 4.3 To Have Subscriptions

12/07/2010 09:46:00 AM - 0 comments

The latest iOS release from Apple is rumoured to launch this Friday and according to speculation it will have an improved App store. The update to the iOS 4.3 will however come with new subscription based apps and this will mean that magazines and other publication will be able to charge monthly/weekly subscriptions fees for people who want to use their apps.

There is one magazine that most publications will be keeping an eye on and that is Sir Richard Branson’s iPad only magazine which is called The Project. If this is a success then we are sure to see a lot more magazines hitting the App Store.

Reports have been circulating for a number of days now that the official launch of iOS 4.3 will take place in December. This new update will include the usual maintenance tweaks and some bug fixes if any. The main thing that people are focusing on is the fact that the new iOS 4.3 is going to include subscription billing API’s.

A lot of magazines have stated that they will be bringing out new subscription based versions of their current apps before Christmas and Apple and News Corp are set to launch an iPad only newspaper in 2011. The Guardian newspaper in the UK revealed on their blog that they are working on a brand new iPhone app and it will cost users £2.99 for six months and £3.99 for 12 months.

This means that there is going to be a big change to the iOS as currently the iOS 4.2 only allows for single App payments. Apple is due to make an announcement on Thursday the 9th of December and this comes just days before the opening of the Mac App Store. I guess we will all just have to wait and see but it sounds like great news for the publishing industry doesn’t it?

Download New Cydia Tweak iSHSHit App To Save iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch SHSH Blobs Easily

12/06/2010 07:44:00 PM - 0 comments

A new jailbreak tool courtesy of Cydia App Store called iSHSHit is a must-have for all jailbreakers and unlockers. The new app has a capability to save the iDevices’s SHSH blobs without getting any help from desktop computers or other tools such as the TinyUmbrella.

The new jailbreak application allows the accessible backing up of SHSH blobs directly from the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch, and to be 100% sure that you saved your SHSH files properly, the app allows the sending of these blobs by Email as well as to Cydia's server. To save the SHSH blobs o your iPhone, all you have to do is to download the iSHSHit app from Cydia and install it on your iPhone. Once installed, the iSHSHit app icon will show up on your Home screen. Simply launch the iSHSHit app and double check the information that you want saved and tap on “Save”.

Here is the official description of the app:
“iSHSHit allows you to backup your SHSH blobs from Apple directly on your iDevice for later downgrading.”

“It automatically uses the Cydia On File service in the background, so it's a great way to ensure that your SHSH is stored by Cydia. iSHSHit can also email your SHSH blobs to you for more permanent storage”

Note: Jailbreakers and unlockers can still use the TinyUmbrella to save their SHSH blobs. But, in order to do that, you must jailbreak your device first using Redsn0w or PwnageTool. You can use this link to download the Redsn0w, PwnageTool, Limera1n, or Greenpos0n to jailbreak your iPhone. We also posted an easy-to-follow jailbreak guide here.

iSHSHit tool is available for free in Cydia App Store via BigBoss repository.

Saurik Launches Updated Cydia Version 1.0.3366-1 to Support iOS 4.2.1 – New Cydia Offers Tons of Improvements and Much Faster

12/06/2010 06:24:00 PM - 1 comments

Jay Freeman (aka Saurik), the hacker/developer behind Cydia app which is the most important application installed on a jailbroken iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch, launches a revamped Cydia to speed up the ultra slow and painful loading times in Cydia.

Basically, the Cydia was get updated to support the recently released iOS 4.2.1 -- which most jailbreakers and unlockers are experiencing battery drain and push performance issues. Saurik said that the new Cydia is way more faster, more solid, and robust compared to the previous version of Cydia, and it’s packed with tons of bug fixes and less annoying errors with bad internet connections downloading packages.

Saurik regarding the updated Cydia:

“Some of my long term performance plans are ‘hitting pay dirt’, and Cydia is much faster than it was before; that said, it isn’t done yet: there’s one more thing that I think is going to make a huge difference that isn’t even in there yet but should be for the final release.”

Saurik has teamed up with fellow hacker to Chpwn to configure some visual/user interface issues.

If you are looking for the new version of Cydia and Redsn0w you can download it using this link. Visit our affiliate site, ziPhone News, to know more about the new features and changes on the new Cydia.

Fix Ultrasn0w iPhone Battery Drain

12/06/2010 05:33:00 PM - 0 comments

If you are one of the thousands of people out there who have an unlocked iPhone using Ultrasn0w on the 6.15.00 baseband then this article is definitely for you. If you are experiencing iPhone battery drain as many users are then the following should help.

According to iPhone hacker Sherif Hashim it is not redsn0w that is causing the problem but the process in which the iPhone is unlocked. This is happening when the iPhone is being activated using the pwnage tool or redsn0w instead of using the iPhone’s official network SIM that it was purchased with.

It should also be noted that the iPhone 4.2 and iPhone 4.2.1 are not like the older iOS’s and they seem to be constantly looking for valid push certificates using the Wi-Fi and through the network. If you check your data usage it will show this and this can be the cause of your battery drain as well as using up a lot of your data. There are a few solutions that have been released and these are:

1. Activate your iPhone using the official carrier SIM if you have it even if it is an old SIM and not working.

2. If you don’t have the SIM it has been suggested that you try to install SBsettings which can be found on Cydia and turn off the Wi-Fi and data when they are not in use. You should be aware that doing this will also shut down 3G and Edge.

According to reports jailbreak app developer @sbinger is currently working on a solution but there is no news as to when this will be finished. The good news is that a solution is being worked on.

There are some reports that disabling push notifications has helped with this battery drain problem too but there are other people who are claiming that this won’t do anything so if you want to try it that is something else. You can also try turning off location services as this has been reported to fix the problem too.

Until an official solution is released these are some of the things that you can do if you are experiencing battery drain on your iPhone.

His tool, “Subscriber Artificial Module (SAM)” tricks your iPhone and iTunes into creating legitimate activation tickets even though you’re unlocked with ultrasn0w. This means you get the full benefit of push applications, and your battery life increases substantially. If you’d like to try it out, check out http://www.bingner.com/SAM.html”

“To help make it easier to try out @sbingner’s tool, we’ve updated redsn0w to include a new “Deactivate” option for the 3G and 3GS. Use this option *after*you’ve installed SAM…it will remove the normal patches made to lockdownd and let SAM take over. (sbingner plans on making a button to do this within SAMPrefs too). Great work, @sbingner!”

Subscriber Artificial Module (SAM) is developed by sbingner, the dev behind TetherMe tweak. Official description goes as:

“Subscriber Artificial Module (SAM) tricks your iPhone and iTunes into creating legitimate activation tickets even though you’re unlocked with ultrasn0w. This means you get the full benefit of push applications, and your battery life increases substantially. If you’d like to try it out, check out http://www.bingner.com/SAM.html”

New Cydia App OpenNotifier Adds Customize Notification and Status Icon On iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch

12/03/2010 08:22:00 AM - 0 comments

All iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch users who are missing a Status Notifier (that was previously featured on earlier FW) you should try the new application from Cydia. The OpenNotifier app is one of the best free application in Cydia app store, it was designed and written from scratch, and the best thing is that the app has capability to put back the missing notification icons on your iOS 4.x iDevice’s status bar to keep you updated and informed on all your important E-mails and messages.

In order to experiemnce this new Cydia tweak, you must jailbreak your iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. We already posted an easy-to-follow jailbreak guide to jailbreak both iOS 4.1 and iOs 4.2.1 using Redsn0w, SnowBreeeze, Greenpois0n, Limera1n, and PwnageTool. After you jailbreaked your device, launch the Cydia app installed on the springboard of your device and simply search for the ‘OpenNotifier’ and install the application. Once the installation is done, just simply tap ‘Restart Springboard’ and you'll find the option in your Settings app. If you don’t find the app, just add ModMyi repo to the list of Cydia sources and look for the app again.

Notable features of the OpenNotifier for iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch include:

  • Ultra-customizable: allow users to assign any status bar icons to any apps they want
  • Provide users an ability to install additional icons from Cydia almost like Winterboard themes
  • Ability to add badges to non-badging push apps (like Sportacular)
  • One click silent mode icon
  • Full retina/non-retina display support feature
  • Includes handset, envelope, speech bubble, silent, and exclamation point icons; many more available Cydia OpenNotifier is an ongoing project, so be on the lookout for new features, including repeat notifications, status bar icons for system processes (like MobileMe syncing), and much more.
