It is now official; the Canadian government has formally approved the Canadian version of the iBookstore. The ministry of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages announced that it was granting formal approval of Apple’s iBookstore. This is great news and they also stated that Apple have proved that the iBookstore Canada will represent new opportunities for Canadian Authors and publishers and it will be a benefit to Canada.

According to reports, Apple has committed to the promotion of the Canadian authored French and English language titles in the iBookstore in Canada and also worldwide. This means increased opportunities for Canadian publishers and authors and increased access to titles. Apple have also agreed to provide assistance to Canadian publishers with ebook creation and enhancement.

There has been a limited version of the iBookstore available in Canada but this only offered US based paid titles and public domain works so the news of an official Canadian iBookstore is a big boost and one that is sure to be welcoming by all publishers and authors.

In other news it has also been reported that Canadian carrier Rogers is now unlocking iPhones for all their customers who have finished their contracts or bought an unsubsidized handset. This new policy will allow customers to unlock their iPhones for $50 plus any applicable reports.

In order to quality for this customers have to have finished their contract or paid the unsubsidized cost of their iPhone 30 days prior to looking to have it unlocked. Canada along with the UK and France was actually one of first countries to actually sell the iPhone 4 unlocked and SIM free. This means that users are free to use their iPhone with any carrier they choose and it also saves on high roaming charges too.
