Persistent iPhone 4 Supply Shortage in Canada

Long queues for the iPhone are being reported in Apple Stores in Canada, also in carrier stores and other smaller stores authorized by Apple to sell the iPhone 4.

Reports indicate that Apple’s Canadian Flagship store bears witness to a lineup of about 100 people waiting for the iPhone 4 this week. An Apple staff said these queues happen every morning beginning at 10am. She said the people would often wait to check if shipments for the iPhone 4 have arrived so they could get a hold of it before stocks run out again.

There have also been reports that smaller stores authorized by Apple to sell the iPhone have also seen dozens of people line up hoping to buy the iPhone 4.

It would be recalled that Apple COO Tim Cook, during last month’s iPhone 4 launch, mentioned that Apple is trying to cope up with the demand, adding that the iPhone 4s are selling faster than Apple can make and deliver them.

Research Firm Gartner, in its worldwide mobile phone sales report released this week, also noted the supply problem as Apple’s disadvantage for not progressing higher into the phone sales business hierarchy. Gartner indicated that Apple could have sold more if it didn’t encounter “iPhone 4 supply constraints and tight inventory management.”

The report also showed that Apple is behind Motorola by only 400,000 units, a number it could have easily achieved if it didn’t have any supply issues.
