Apple’s iPod Touch may get cellular phone features sometime this week. Reports indicate that a Chinese firm has developed an accessory with a SIM card slot that fixes onto the iPod Touch enabling it to also work as a phone.Shenzhen based firm Yosion Technology has reportedly developed the Apple Peel 520 protective case which fixes onto the iPod and comes with a dock connector. It also has a built-in 800mAh battery which is expected to give 4.5 hours of talk time and five days on standby.
The product is said to work with jailbroken iPods. However, it's still on testing stage, and may not work as a full-pledged cellular phone.
Initial reports said its SMS apps are still to be installed, including full features for calling and messaging. It will also have Bluetooth and hands-free calling capability. Developers are also still working on the product’s caller name and number displays.
The gadget has been tested for calling and testers claimed they didn’t experience any dropped calls.
Reports said the accessory will be sold for $57 and will be offered in a silicone rubber case. It also comes with a one year warranty.
