South Korea will soon join millions of happy customers with the iPhone 4’s scheduled launch in September. South Korea’s Communications Commission finally approved the iPhone 4 to be sold in its market, with KT as its exclusive distributor.

It would be recalled that Korea was initially included in Apple’s list of 18 countries for the iPhone 4 launch last July 30th but failed due to regulatory delays. iPhone 4 has now received approval but it would take a month or two before it finally arrives in the South Korean market.

KT representative Lee In-won expects to start selling the iPhone 4 by September. KT added that it has already sold around 840,000 iPhone units since it went on sale making the stores revenue grow by 2.3 percent for its smartphone sales.

On the other hand, speculators believe that Apple needs to move faster if it wants a better market share in South Korea. Samsung is said to be enjoying popularity with its Galaxy S that reportedly sold 300,00 units in two and a half weeks.

Other carriers like SK Telecom are reportedly looking for alternative smartphones in the market after Samsung’s Omnia II failed to oust Apple in smartphone sales. SK Telecom also simultaneously launched the first touchscreen phone from RIM - - the BlackBerry Storm 2.

With the growing popularity of smartphones these days, timing is truly important in order to achieve sales goals, even exceed it.
