Apple is on the right track and well-positioned to sustain its iPhone 4 sales momentum until the end of the year. Research firm Gartner’s recently published report on worldwide mobile phone sales confirmed this data.

Gartner published the report this week and covers worldwide mobile phone sales to end users for the second quarter of 2010. The data shows Apple maintaining its seventh place lead among all mobile phone manufacturers and retained the 2.7 percent market share it held last quarter.

The latest report also indicates that Apple’s sales also increased as compared to its 1.9 percent share in the same quarter in 2009.

The data shows Motorola in the sixth place only by 400,000 units lead from that of Apple's sales.

Gartner indicated that Apple could have sold more if it didn’t encounter “iPhone 4 supply constraints and tight inventory management in preparation for the arrival of the phone at the end of the second quarter of 2010.” Still, the iPhone 4’s global sales and popularity worldwide is expected to pull Apple’s sales lead until year end.

Smartphones now have a 19 percent share in the total mobile phone sales worldwide. Gartner also indicated that smartphone sales go up by 50 percent year after year. From this share, Apple captured 14.2 percent of the market, putting it in the fourth place with Symbian, Research in Motion and Android in first, second and third place respectively.
