Apple Sues Substandard Accessory Makers

Do you buy third party accessories for your iDevices only to see them short out, fall into pieces or just stop working altogether?

Apple describes these third party items as defective and having inferior quality and recently filed a complaint against manufacturers of these accessories for iPhone, iPad and iPod.

The lawsuit was filed in federal court in San Francisco last July 22 naming Accstation, Boxware Corporation, Crazyondigital, Eforcity Corporation, Everydaysource, Itrimming, and United Integral as respondents. These sellers are based in California and Washington.

Apple also indicated in its complaint that it could name some other 20 companies that are manufacturing these defective products. Apple alleged that these unauthorized products violate its trademarks and infringe around 10 patents.

The tech giant said these accessories, namely chargers, speakers and cables for the iPod music player, iPhone and iPad tablet computer, do not conform to the Apple standards and raised concerns that they may render some iDevice attributes or features unusable due to incompatibility.

Apple’s recent action strengthens its position against businesses that take away dollars from its coffers. At the same time, it addresses a real issue that many of these accessory makers do not modify or update their products to conform to the changing models and new generation products.

It would be recalled that Apple filed a similar complaint back in November against a company accused of selling inferior quality power adapters for the MacBook laptop computer.
