In the growing business and competition among smartphones, manufacturers go out of their way to make their devices unique. Apple Inc. is one of such companies that seek to maintain its products’ uniqueness and design.

Apple Inc. has recently been awarded patent protection for specific features it invented for its iDevices. Apple filed for patents on two iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad features that users see and use every day on their gadgets - the Slide to Unlock feature of the Lock screen and the pop-up letters that appear when you're typing on the iPhone keyboard.

Apple applied for patents to said features on July 30, 2007 under the title "Animated graphical user interface for a display screen or portion thereof.” The United States Patent and Trademark Office this week decided in Apple’s favor giving them exclusive usage of said features. Apple can now charge any company with license fees if they wish to use the same or significantly similar elements.

The applications were under patent numbers D621849 and D621848.
