Activate iPhone 4 as a Modem

FaceTime, Retina Display, Multitasking, HD video recording - - these are just some of the wonderful features of the iPhone 4. Did you know that you can also use it as a modem?Waiting to connect to the internet can feel like eternity. In this fast-paced generation, most people wanted everything immediately available so as not waste valuable time.
If, one day, you find yourself traveling for business reasons and require an internet connection, you wouldn’t have to worry about your internet connection. Your iPhone 4 can provide instant access for your laptop.
How to Use Your iPhone 4 as a Modem
First and foremost, you need to enable it as a modem via an iPhone dock-connector-to-USB cable. You will also need a data plan.
1: On your iPhone menu, go to “Settings” > Click on the “Settings” icon.
2: Go to “General” category > Click on “General” > Click on “Network”.
3: After clicking the “Network” icon > Click on “Internet Tethering” > Slide the option from “Off” to “On”. After this, your iPhone should already be activated to work as a modem.
4: Connect your iPhone to the laptop with the iPhone to USB cable. After connecting the cable, a pop-up window will appear prompting you for approval. Click on “iPhone” and then select “Apply”. Your laptop should now be connected to the Internet.
5: You can now launch the web browser for quick Internet access.
Remember not to turn your phone off so as not to lose your Internet connection. So, make sure it has enough battery life to ensure continuous connectivity.
I tried this on my laptop and the iphone was recognized as a digital camera.
Is this necessary to install Itunes on the laptop in order to see the iphone as a modem ????

I also had the same problem. I loaded i Tunes on the laptop and Bingo it WORKS. No Problems.
