Capcom, industry leader in video games for 25 years now, has expressed disappointment with the sales performance of its games in the Apple App Store. Capcom’s latest financial reports indicate that it barely achieved its projected sales.

While some games enjoy high popularity in the Aplle App Store, Capcom’s Resident Evil 4, Street Fighter IV, and Phoenix Wright showed disappointing sales outputs. Capcom said Resident Evil 4 sales have only “increased gradually”, while anticipated games like Street Fighter and Phoenix Wright only “achieved their projected sales.” The results failed high expectations for said games and are not very good news for Capcom.

Electronic Arts’ (EA) Bioware is also still coping with the facts. It said that they’ve learned a very important lesson in the business regarding game popularity. Greg Zeschuk sounded very disappointed and said, “Our guess was wrong, and we learned something in the process -- that the fundamental tactile gameplay is actually the key thing on the platform."

EA initially tried to build up the popularity of its games in the Apple App Store with a really good story, only to find out that it is not sufficient to keep players interested. It turned out that “iPhone gamers are more interested in the experience than the text that backs it up.” Popular Apps Doodle Jump and Angry Birds are proof of this.

Need for Speed, Risk, SimCity Deluxe, Mirror’s Edge, NCAA Football, and FIFA World Cup are just some of the top EA games at the Apple App Store.
