The latest news doing the round pertaining to iPad launch on April 3, 2010 is about George Hotz’s claims of having developed a new untethered software jailbreak method for the iPhone and iPod Touch, which might even work on the iPad.Popularly known in the iPhone jailbreak community as Geohot, Hotz has revealed that his new unnamed jailbreak method is as simple to use as his previous iPhone software jailbreak, blackra1n.
Geohot has however, maintained strict silence about the possible release date for the new software yet; although speculations are rife about a possible jailbreak release to greet iPad on its launch. In his blog post, Geohot has not given specific assertion as to whether his new jailbreak method will work on iPhones running the latest iPhone update from Apple, OS 3.1.3. However, he seemed quite optimistic about the iPad jailbreak.
There is also news that the Dev Team is working towards creating an iPad version of their iPhone jailbreak greenpois0n.
iPad Jailbreak – the Ins and Outs
The reason why people jailbreak iPhone is because jailbreaking allows you to tether your iPhone to your laptop; however, you either have Wi-Fi only or you have 3G built on the iPad. You would probably never require tethering your iPad to your notebook computer – at the most you need not carry both at all. You would definitely like to keep your laptop at home, once you start carrying the iPad.
Another favorite application among jailbreakers is called Winterboard. With this theming app, you can redesign your iPhone's UI from icons to the background and even the battery icon and the "side to unlock" bar itself. However, on the iPad, users can now use any image as the iPad's background image instead of just on the lock screen as is done on the iPhone.
Moreover, many jailbreaking apps that allow performance for iPhone-related functions including camera apps will no longer be necessary since the iPad is not a phone and is devoid of such features.
Do you really need to jailbreak the iPad?
Although, previous jailbreaking tools like blackra1n and RedSn0w had a tough time beating Apple's iPhone OS update 3.1.3, Geohot is confident that the new software which he has developed will "probably work on the iPad". However, we are yet to verify it the iPad is shipped.
Now, the BIG question is that do you actually need to jailbreak the iPad. The jailbreaking community definitely has its own analysis on jailbreaking iPad - you can place any application you want on the device from unofficial application stores like Cydia.
Research shows that many may consider iPad jailbreak just to customize the iPad in ways restricted by Apple. It is a fact that with iPad jailbreak you can change your homescreen background or even install visual themes. You can also remove standard Apple applications that are otherwise not removable, such as Stocks or Weather. But are these features besides being nice, compelling enough to encourage iPad jailbreak?

No need to jailbreak the iPad!!! Just release it now please so I can finally use my iPhone again on 3.1.3 !!! but then again I may be just slightly biased :p..
Seriously though although he didnt 'specifically'say itll work on 3.1.3 of course it should, if Geohot thinks its going to work on the iPad then why wouldnt it on 3.1.3. + dont you think he would of said if it couldnt???
You guys forgot about multitasking, which is the main reason people should want to jb, plus other in depth-customizations.

Playing pokemon through gpSPhone on my iphone is one of the reasons i still have it. Playing it on an ipad would be kick ass!, and that would require jailbreaking
