Good news for all of you! The latest buzz is that the much-awaited Apple iPhone 4G is expected to cost significantly less than previous models. This assumption according to the analysts is based on the fact that since, 85% of the smartphone market is not willing to shell out the amount of money Apple would like to quote for their devices; a price drop is inevitable for the Apple iPhone 4G.As Apple is slated to launch its next version of the iPhone in June, iPhone enthusiasts and industry analysts are equally optimistic of Apple offering its new device with a lower total cost of ownership and also new functionality - potentially including gesture-based technology. Along with the price drop rumor, others which are doing the rounds include specifications for the iPhone 4G consisting of WiFi N, a 5MP camera, an A4 chip clocked at 600MHz, perhaps faster, and AMOLED touchscreen from Samsung.
As the story unfolds….
As we move quickly into March 2010, with the WWDC approaching around the corner in June, when the much anticipated 4th generation iPhone is expected to be launched; it will not be wrong to say that the design, features and price strategy must be already in place by now. Most analysts are of the view that Apple will potentially come up with lower price tag to not only their latest version of the iPhone but all the iPhone versions till date.
Can’t really say if this is too much or appropriate to expect from Apple Inc. who are masters of marketing strategy. Is there a reason why Apple should go much lower with pricing on subsidized iPhone(s)? The one visible factor possibly playing a role here is the iPad, which Apple is currently interested to make accessible to a wide customer base.
Can a price cut be possible?
Amidst the rumor mills churning stories of a possible price cut for iPhone(s), one question that seem to rattle thinking minds is that – will it be feasible for Apple to cut prices for ownership of a new iPhone till it maintains its exclusivity with AT&T.
Going by records, since the original iPhone went on sale, adopters were able to get away with a plan consisting of $40 for voice and just $20 for unlimited data. Soon after, the $20 fee was hiked to $30 in 2008 with the introduction of the iPhone 3G and it has hence remained since then and also with the iPad.
Enthusiasts are optimistic that Apple will come up with new data plans with limits, such as 100MB for $10 per month, 500MB for $20 per month, and unlimited (nee 5GB) for $30 per month. Let’s keep our fingers crossed and await Apple’s new offering for the new decade!
