Apple Releases iPhone OS 3.2 SDK (GM Seed Version)

Apple has released the Golden Master (GM) Seed version of iPhone OS 3.2 SDK on Monday just less than a week ahead of the iPad tablet PC launch. This version will allow anyone registered with company’s iPhone Developer Program to build mobile applications for the iPad using non-beta tools. It is a fact that members of the iPhone Developer Program pay for presumably just this sort of access, to the tune of $99 per year.Apple is highly optimistic and claims that some 150,000 apps will be available upon the iPad’s April 3 release. Moreover, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak has revealed that the iPad would predominantly cater to educational segments and technological neophytes. Initial reports indicate that resources for the iPhone OS 3.2 GM Seed - iPhone Reference Library, Sample Code, iPad Programming Guide and Human Interface Guidelines; have remained basically unchanged from beta versions of the platform.

The release of Apple’s package of iPhone OS 3.2 SDK Golden Master represents the final version of the toolkit developer of applications for mobile devices - iPhone, iPod touch and the iPad. Apart from that developers can also download the official firmware iPad 3.2 for Tablet PC of the same name, as well as the corresponding license agreement. This Agreement also includes hints of the future firmware update, which however, have to pay.
This recent of iPhone OS 3.2 SDK GM release comes just less than a fortnight after the release of iPhone OS SDK 3.2 beta 5 (which was release only a week after the beta 4 launch). Beta 5 is considered a significant milestone; and apart from the SDK update, Apple had released version 1.3 of its Developer Application Loader utility. This Application Loader utility, according to developers is a new addition to the Xcode tool set. Developers who need the update can download a new copy of the application via iTunesConnect.

Analysts indicate that this new iPhone OS 3.2 SDK for iPad developers will make the way for Apple’s App Store to include as many as 300,000 apps for the iPad, the iPhone, and the iPod Touch by the end of 2010. There have also been reports of a 185 percent rise in the number of new application that have been initiated for the iPhone OS over the past few weeks and there has been a substantial presence of customized versions of existing applications tailored for the iPad.
The popularity soaring for iPad apps is ensured considering the fact that the iPad tablet PC itself has the potential to become a huge hit, with Morgan Stanley analysts estimating between 8 million and 10 million units shipped in the current year. Moreover, anticipation is high that believe the iPad will target the sizable sub-$800 consumer notebook market, which equates to 30 million units in the U.S. and 120 million units globally.
