The latest news to thrill iPhone users as you move into the New Year is of the arrival of the 8GB iPhone 3G. This news created a storm when it was first reported on the German apfeltalk forums, with the user David disclosing that he had ordered a refurbished 8GB iPhone 3G. However, to his utter excitement he found that the packaging of the iPhone he had received suggested that it was a 3GS model most probably slated to be sold at the $99 price range.

While the news has already set the rumor mills spinning with interesting reviews and stories, one thing which cannot be denied is the fact that this news has made Apple rivals sit up and take note. Apple since it’s incept and the following years has made its marketing strategy clear. It does not let its products get state and boring. So, it makes sure that it consistently keeps on inventing and reinventing its products and strategies – successfully keeping competition at arm’s length.

The new 8GB iPhone 3GS ‘label’ story….

The ‘label’ has no doubt given this Hamburg, Germany user the opportunity of a lifetime for being in the limelight. Thanks to Apple Inc.! As he writes in the original (German) post (translated for your convenience):

"Seems to be an iPhone 3G (back and no compass, FW) 3.0.1 on it. However, the packaging is clearly designed for an iPhone 3G [S] 8GB. Ordered was a refurbished 3G iPhone 8GB.

Vote: who have a refurbished iPhone 3G in a new packaging of the packaged iPhone 3G [S] 8GB, because the enhancement is clearly new. Which clearly indicates that the sale of the iPhone 3G [S] 8GB immediately imminent."

The surprised owner, David says that both the model number and part number attributed to the refurbished handset were correct for the existing iPhone 3G iteration of Apple’s popular smartphone. However, the other fundamentals of the device’s packaging made obvious indication to an 8GB iPhone 3GS. Apple until now has not yet confirmed or denied the reports - accelerating the whispers to gather momentum.
