Potential Fix for Winterboard Problems following Blackra1n Jailbreak

Have you had problems with your Winterboard after Blackra1n jailbreak? Well, some iPhone users have reported that Winterboard doesn’t work (the iPhone just cannot change theme in Winterboard) after jailbreaking with Blackra1n. As reported earlier, Blackra1n is a 30-second jailbreak tool developed by GeoHot.

Although, many experts working on this subject have suggested the use of PwnageTool 3.1.4 to jailbreak your iPhone again, the unofficial dev team have also made certain notes about Blackra1n issue on the iphone dev team blog, which reads:

For the early adopters who ran blackra1n and are having problems with mobilesubstrate, winterboard, diskaid, or ifunbox, you can install a custom .ipsw from PwnageTool to fix these issues. That’s because all jailbroken devices accept a custom .ipsw created by PwnageTool. (However, if you ran blackra1n on a 3G or 3GS that means you updated to stock 3.1.x, and the carrier unlock is now out of reach. We’ll continue to work on a carrier unlock for the latest basebands, but the timeframe for such an unlock is unknowable.)

Is this possibly the fix for Winterboard problem?

There have been a lot of speculations and suggestions regarding the fixing of the Winterboard problem after installing Blackra1n for jailbreak iphone. However, only a few seem promising – one amongst them is not to install Rock/Icy; because it is believed that the problem may be due to Icy. Instead you can install Cydia, as you will not be having any problem.

Fixing DiskAid or iPhone Browser Issue

Blackra1n developed by Geohot is considered the quickest (30 seconds) and the easiest tool for jailbreak iPhone OS 3.1.2.. However, there have also been reports that DiskAid or iPhone Browser could not identify their jailbroken iPhone after using blackra1n. The reason being your jailbroken iPhone misses a service that the iPhone file browser depends to access the root file system. That service is known as “afc2″. And this has been clarified by Geohot in his Twitter message (as shown in image).

All you need to do to fix the problem is just install a fix called “afc2add” that is available from Cydia. Once the installation is over, reboot your iPhone. You may now again try to connect your iPhone with USB and launch DiskAid or other file browser. But, make sure that the file browser is able to identify your jailbroken iPhone and access the root file system.

Isn’t all this exciting? But, if you are someone who is yet to get to unleash the adventure of iphone unlocking and jailbreak iphone, you can get instant access from easyiphoneunlocking.com.
