Skype brings Voicemail and SMS support for iPhone

Skype has made the world a small place and its never ending endeavor to innovate useful features so that the whole world stays connected is much appreciated. Skype 1.1 for iPhone

New languages: Skype for iPhone is now available in several languages other than English such as Danish, Dutch, Russian, Finnish, French, German, Polish, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Portuguese (Brazil), Portuguese (Portugal), Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Spanish and Swedish.

Voicemail and SMS: You can now listen to your Skype voicemail while you’re on the move. Thanks to Skype, as they added this feature to the request of thousands of Skype –iPhone users worldwide. Moreover, you can now send very low-cost SMSs to friends and family around the world.

More Skype app features for the iPhone

- iPhone users can now easily send and receive instant messages using 3G, Wi-Fi, GPRS or EDGE. Moreover, users while online or instant messaging can also receive calls to a personal online number along with viewing contacts.

- If you are a Skype customer, you can call anyone of your Skype contacts worldwide free of cost from any Wi-Fi zone. And, interestingly, all calls made to landline or mobile phones from any Wi-Fi zone. For iPhone users using these services, you will need a Wi-Fi connection.

- The new Skype app allows a contact list to be created, maintained and updated besides sending or receiving instant messaging; along with easy identification of users by making profile pictures visible.

- Some visible modifications have been made to the dial pad when using Skype for calling from iPhone.

Furthermore, Skype also offers iPhone users with an unlimited data usage plan over a mobile data connection, so as to circumvent mobile data usage charges by a wireless service provider. This plan can be used for this service over a mobile data connection for 3G, GPRS and EDGE mobile data usage.

You will need iPhone OS 2.2 or 3.0 versions to run Skype 1.1 for iPhone and this app is free for iPhone users.
