How to order a brand new iPhone 3 GS without an AT&T plan

Many people want to order the new iPhone but they just don't want to sign a contract with AT&T. There are several reasons for this. Maybe the plan is just to expensive or they don't know where they will be the next years. The following video shows, how you can order the new iPhone 3GS without a AT&T plan. The 16 GB one is 599 $ and the 32GB iPhone 3GS is 699$
You will need one of this Apple IDs:
iPhone 3GS 16GB Black: MB715LL/A
iPhone 3GS 16GB White: MB716LL/A
iPhone 3GS 32GB Black: MB717LL/A
iPhone 3GS 32GB White: MB718LL/A
Also required:
- Firefox
- Firebug
Important:
We found this 'trick' on italkiphone.com and they say it works, but we have NOT tested it yet. A similar trick also worked for refurbished macs. This works only for the US Apple Store.

It works! We got our iPhones a few days ago in our US P.O Box!
i thought $599/$699 iphone gs are free to order by anyone? just go to at&t and they'll sell u one, because u're paying the non-subsidized, no-contract price. $599/$699 is the highest price that u can pay on an att&t iphone gs. it doesn't make the phone sim-unlocked, so u're still stucked with at&t's plan, e.g. talk-as-u-go plan. what will be really awesome, if the video can tell readers how to buy an iphone 3gs w/o for $199/$299, even for at&t users who're not yet qualified. howard

I tried this with firebug, firefox and apple usa. I kept getting a screen that asked for 'add to existing account or create a new att account'. nice idea but it doesn't work.

Make sure that you use a NON APPLE product!
This Method works according to kevin and some other people.
@George: You have to replace the Apple ID of the product with a 3GS one!
You are right, it will have a AT&T netlock. But this could get really interesting after an unlock for the 3GS will be available.
As I already said:

This hack no longer works, each iPhone id is picked up and the cart reroutes you to the AT&T sign up page ...
i think apple fixed the glitch. i used the exact same item as the video and I added another non apple item - no go.
Try buying from UK applestore.
It does not work. i select a non apple product put the id MB718LL/A i close the box and then click add to cart, and it brings me to a iphone AT&T account set screen. !!!!! now what.
they fixed this glitch... re-routes to at&t sign up
