The same applies to Blackberry. No?
HI ZIBRI
I AM BIG FAN OF YOURS. I AM JUST WAITING FOR THE FIRMWARE 2.0 SO I CAN DONATE SOME $ TO YOU.
ABOUT YOU BEING WORRIED, DOES THIS MEAN THAT IS GOING TO BE MORE DIFFICULT FOR YOU TO COME UP WITH THE ZIPHONE FOR THE 2.0 FIRMWARE OR JUST WORRIED ABOUT OUR SECURITY IN GENERAL?
does this mean that apple will know if you are using an unlocked phone?
Blackberry is doing this for years.
The difference is that with BB you can be sure that everything is secured: look at RIM's position against India's request to hand to their intelligence agency a master key. They will prefer losing one of the booming IT-T markets than take a worldwide credibility hit.
I am not preaching ethics here: blackberry users care about their sensitive data, whereas iPhone's users will care mostly about the integration of their online experience...or something in between.
I am more worried that they will embed some re-activation on every connection to the server cloud. BB is doing this, and with every restart of your device, the system performs a checkup that verifies software integrity. If apple does this, it will be one more block in jailbreaking the 3G...

BTW: these might be the last days one can get a jailbreakable/simfree iPhone. Soon inventories will dry completely..
Agree. And I think Android-based smartphones will have higher potential than iPhone in general. So I am waiting for the 2nd generation Android-based smartphones.
We love you Zibri
Hi Zibri,
well, should we be worried ? Yes and no. We should, because it is clearly to see that all these "Big Brother" services are getting more and more. Google wants all your data (with Google Health even your health data !), Apple wants total control, PayBack screens you buying habits, etc.
On the other hand, the idea of just ONE central monitoring service on a mobile device is not the worst idea. It should only take requests from more than one server, i.e. not only from Apple. But, isn't this just the next opportunity for Pwnage ?
So, just get the specs for this service and circumvent it. Or, the open source community could establish their own central service and just use that.
Shouldn't be too difficult.
Zibri , I agree . When you will publish the 2.0 firmware I will also make a donation for your valuable effort. PS I do not agree with your statements on Apple though
when the ziphone for 2.0 firmwares will came ?
Your de man, I'll be sure to have a few can of beers ready for donation(or wines)~<3 XD
Hey Zibri,
Long time no see eh? I've been real busy but Im going to make a 3.0 vid soon. I have a quick question (not saying you specifically would know the answer), I just called the apple store and they informed me that everyone buying a phone has to either start a contract or renew their own for 2 years BEFORE they leave the store with the phone... any suggestions?
-AceMurdera
come on guys! that mean that apple
will collect all your information and activities for who knows what purpose... well you can imagine what the purpose is. Information is Power and it sells at the highest price.
I think you misunderstood (or maybe I). That service is just to push events, not for all events.
It wasn't clear if that will be the only way to implement push services into the iPhone. Hope not. In any case we can use encryption to bypass Apple's big brother.
Another thing:
The Android still a mistery to me. Only Java is supported ? Still missing some good RAD tools. Where google will make profit ?
I hope that iPhone OS gets a rival to it's level. Monopolies are our pocket's archenemies.
hey zibri can the new iPhone software take videos with the camera?
Dont plan to use mobileme. $100 to have few running program to push my calendar and e-mail around is useless under my usage of the iphone. i am satisfied with having 2.0 on the phone that allows me to use apple app store and get them fancy apps.
I assumed that you can just get a remote notification to wake up your app, and then do local processing and/or direct communication, not mediated through Apple.
The point is:
no freedom of coding.
everything has to pass thru apple.
The comunity should fight this instead of praising app store (i much more preferred installer!)
And what Steve "forgot" to say is:
No MMS
No Videos
No better camera
No free bluetooth
NO REAL FREEDOM (appstore)
I'll keep my actual iPhone very tight.
Zibri, Dont worry everything will come to your mind when you get your hands on one(iphone 3G) i KNOW IT!!!!
You are very welcomed to come to MEXICO (Navojoa Sonora) and stay in my Hotel, 30 minutes away from the beach, and if you prefer in my house at the beach and drink MUCHAS CERVEZAS!!!! CORONA PORSUPUESTO!!!!! GRACIAS ZIBRI !!!
I have reserved my iPhone3G 16GB White near my phoneshop in Tokyo. But the clerk said "We have no information pricing shippin dataplan etc...from our mobile carrier." to me.
No problem I will use iPhone3G by PHS300 wifi and use Fring to call.:-)
hey zibri, can you still unlock the new iphone? how long will it take? thanks
Hey Zibri
i got some bad news here i hope its not true but it looks it is
i just found this site with all the info that i didnt like
please advice
http://gizmodo.com/5014909/att-memo-to-retail-managers-shows-iphone-3g-policy#c6118500
sounds like what blackberry is doing already right?
sounds like Blackberry, right?
Personally, I think its time for an open mobile phone platform. Something which is standardised for all phones, is maintained by mainly open source code and written in C and Java...If only there were such a thing. I agree with you entirely on this one. Add their GPS into the mix and apple's got alot of control which can be very innocently justified.
So what perhaps I'm trying to bring across, whilst well aware of the irony of saying this considering Google's input to the platform and with Google being the closest thing we have to a modern TeleScreen network (Orwell reference. Read.) I think perhaps projects like the Android platform really are the way forward.
Companies have too much control. Thanks to the 'miracles' of wireless networking, you really can live up to the Oasis song and 'Start a Revolution from your Bed'.
P.S: I am not a communist.
But they will have the right to bar applicatory and softwares that they can be used for the raising of the blockade, or softwares not registered?
I was going to sell my current iphone but after I read Zibri's comment, I think I'll hang tight to my current iphone until everything is worked out.
Thanks Zibri for the hard work.
So would this mean MMS n video apps from installer wont work?? BTW i ended up payin for your software and after realised it was free. How do i get my money back(they won't refund me), i'd rather give it to you?
guys all Apple is doing is copying the Exchange Server services that exist in Enterprise and Private market. You don't have to use their push services go elsewere. I have been using Exchange for years. Yes I pay for it but I have secured mail and control. My provider is Intermedia.net
I started using them when I lived in Canada and now I live in France and I still get the high quality professional private secure services and I agree with Zibri, no way will I park my data on Apple servers so they can eventually claim they have the world's largest social network database and sell it for a gazillion$
I love my privacy and what Apple is doing is not new, Facebook does it, Google also, Microsoft was the first with Hotmail and dozens of others too.
So run and get yourselves an account with firms like Intermedia, there are lots of them out there.
yeah....you're right....
hell zibri, compliments for your ZiPhone....is very simply and quickly.I wanto to help you to unlock iphone, becuase im terribly interested in hacking iphone. Can i help you?
Add to that mobileme, another big brother keeping everything about you.
No thank you! I'm not ready to share the info in my phone with anybody be that big bro or any bro.
I have a feeling there's a catch with the new iPhone - who knows maybe the material used could be health hazards.
By the way, thanks to you, I was able to unlock my iPhone, locked courtesy of my nosy woman. You can read about it here.
More power to you :)
Zibri, you should make your software freeware and not opensource as many companies are selling your software without any of the money going to you. Just thought to tell you. :-)
is this going to have any effect on the previous iPhone? Version 1.1.4?
Hello Zibri,
Your hacks are priceless. I have been enjoying the 1.1.4 for approx. 1 month until my pohone seems to be having problems. I tried to download the current jailbreak but cant seem to download. It redirects me to the main page. I am unable to access my numbers and sms right now (uGHHHH). can u please help? Many thanks.
CL
Zibri, is there a way to see a real boot log while iPhone is booting instead of Apple logo? I guess you can just mod some plist to achieve this. Thanks.
Yes, let go with Andriod, which is a much human platform. :)
don't sweat it man, nothing that some patchwork and a few hours of time can't take care of :P
Dont be paranoid! This is the ONLY BEST SOLUTION!
the main prob is not about software but about gettin the new iphone..
i read on several websites that you have to activate your at/t contract in the store..also in apple store..
i guess i got to buy an old one...
Okay, so I'm currently living in the UK. Was talking to my local Carphone Warehouse and it turns out we can buy it like the old iPhone. Buy in store, 'activate' on iTunes. At least there's some hope for the UK, and we can always sell to the USA. I hope you get it unlocked Zibri. I'm relying on you! Good Luck!
I was about to say waht kavi said: Blackberry is already doing the same.
Translating your post for the Hong Kong site at the moment...
Sound like someone going to have to run server to replace apples server or something to get 2.0 running. I just like apps, don't need any sim.
i am a little bit confused? can the new firmware from apple be unlocked or not? i hear the new firmware adds push mail to your phone... i want to update it for that reason but i don't want to have my iphone lock!! someone please clarify!!
Hey my brother....my guest is....
can I install android in my iphone....? for comments don't worry man ...we trust in U mind to fix this ......2.0 ;-)
Ivan
Go ahead Zibri, YOU CAN DO IT!!!
Android is the way to go!!! FINALLY, an open source mobile solution, any open source hardware to follow maybe? ;) I had ordered a couple of new iPhones, but thanks to android and your tip, they are forever canceled... Goodbye iPhone, HELLO ANDROID!
i've heard that when the iphone 2.0 software update comes out it will be available for all phones (ie. locked and unlocked). the fact that apple are changing their policy to give multiple carriers a chance, leads me to believe this may be true.
Any ideas?
To all the people who are worried about it being have to be contracted before you buy it, i guess you dont have to cuz it doesnt make sense. If thats the case, no one would be able to seel it on ebay or apple itself wont sell it online. But then again, i could be wrong.
I want to donate without using paypal. I had a slight problem with paypal so can't use it. I really want to donate because besides it being good Karma, you rock! Alternatives?
Well in america and most other countries the iphone will only be sold on contract but in italy and uk there is the choice of also of buying it on PAYG although it will be more expensive, there is no news of other countries which will offer that choice but i believe zibri will want to get working as soon as the iphone is out so you have two places you can get it from.
Is Zibri dead?
Keep up with the blog updates!!!
Really? All your data passes through someone anyway. I've just learned to understand that I am insignificant enough for anyone to care about my personal information. All they really care about is statistics.
Just like you im hanging out for Android! Open-source has such huge potential and here's hoping Google will succeed well.
