Steve Jobs apparently joked about all of the hacked iPhones out there during WWDC. Go ZiPhone!
is there any word as to if the phone can even be hacked? Rumor has it that Apple has integrated some sort of "hacker resistant" block. I doubt it since it is available worldwide now. I just bought an iPhone so I don't know whether or not to return it and wait for the 3g.. but if 3g can't be hacked then I will just keep the old one.
Could the video showing the security guards unlocking the new iphone from the safe mean its unlocked out of the box ?????
ziphone helped me with my ipod touch and my iphone too!! All my hopes on u for the 3g iphone too zibri.. hope to see a whole new ziphone soon man..

I'd like to know what an "Assisted GPS" is... I have a feeling that it is just a soft/firmware extension of the current cell network triangulation method on the latest versions. Note how in the tech specs, there is no mention of a GPS receiver built into the phone. Plus, on the "current iPhone owners" page, it informs GPS use will be available as an application made available through the firmware upgrade.
If this is the case, then only differences I can tell of is 3G, and the casing, so I don't feel bad about the 16gb I just bought a month ago... Oh wait, and the price. Dammit.

There is growing evidence that iPhone 3G will not be available to buy without signing up for the contract first. Apple are quoted as saying the iPhone 3G will be available in Apple and AT&T retail stores. There is no mention of it being available via the AppleStore.
I am in the UK. The UK iPhone 3G page has had all references to purchasing it online, from any of the 3 previous online options, removed.
I think the end of contract free iPhone purchasing has arrived.
iPhone 3G requires a new 2 year contract. While there will still be heavy demand for ZiPhone to help with v2 firmware on older models, i think that there will be far less demand for iPhone 3G unlocking.
I do hope, however, that every single person who benefits from the hard work of Zibri, that will lead to that v2 firmware unlock, sees fit to donate something for his efforts. I personally donated $30 when i used ZiPhone to unlock my 8GB iPhone. Surely a $1 or even $10 is a fair amount to give?
Waiting patiently, if the iPhone 3G can be unlocked I'll get one.
I don't understand why the 3g only costs 200 when it does everthing the touch does and more, but it costs 100 bucks less
So I am totally waiting for you to hack the 3g Iphone. I have already dontated about 20$ to your fund and will definitely donate more money once the hack for the 3g Iphone comes out!
I'd hold onto your old phone. AT&T CEO said you will not be able to get a G3 out of the store without a contract. Hopefully there will be a workaround.

I don't give a dime for the new 3G.
No 5m camera, no real Gps, no MMS, still 133g.No big deal.
So, test it and make us happy with the 2.0.

If it's true that you can't buy iPhone without having a contract with AT&T will only hurt their profits even more.
T-Mobile I believe out numbers AT&T customers especially here in Southern California (Los Angeles areas).
If Apple's goal was to make iPhone more affordable, then they hit the nail on the head. If they limit it to just AT&T workers they might as well toss everything out the door.
Knowing that T-Mobile carrier provides service for iPhone over in Germany, what the heck is stopping T-Mobile from providing their service to one of the most capitalistic society the USA?
Really this tinkers and grinds my gear.

I can't see why people are saying there's no real GPS? GPS is GPS, it's completely different to the current technology of using cell towers. You can't continue to only use that technology and call it GPS it'd be mis selling.
If you look at the maps demo video you can see how it does a rough location from a cell tower as it does now, then jumps down to street level as the proper GPS kicks in.
Assisted GPS (or AGPS) is used in a lot of PDAs (such as iPaqs and Nokia) and it means that the device will download GPS almanac data from the Internet in order to help it find the satellites more quickly and also more easily in a built up area.
It's still a GPS is just leverages the advantages of having a data connection in the same device which a traditional GPS doesn't.

In the UK O2 are now offering the iPhone on PAYG so I guess you'll still be able to walk out of the shop with one (and hopefully hack it) but it'll be more than the £99 contract price.

As kevan already mentioned above, there won't be heavy demand for unlocking the 3G but unlocking 2.0 for the old one will be very important since it isn't assured that the 3G-Model will be sold without signing a rate plan.
Nevertheless a fact making me optimistic is, that O2 UK is about to sell it with a "Pay&Go"-Option

The price isn't announced yet. Though I don't think that it will be possible to use a "Pay&Go"-iPhone with any other carrier than O2 UK.

You just need to buy a 3G iphone that was sold as a pay-as-you-go iPhone. That has no contract. Unlock that one. The catch being that if you are in the US (and probably most countries) there is no pay-as-you-go option. You'll have to import. Probably from ebay. It's all moot, of course, until it is possible to unlock the 3G iPhone.
not sure about this pay as you go business. Stevie said that they wouldn't be sold over $199 which equates to £100 mas o menos. if it is pay as you go, how on earth could anyone afford giving £100 iPhones without a contract? That said, I agree that this new iPhone being cheaper than the touch would just be plain stupid. Some mixed messages here methinks.
So let's say the only way to get a iPhone 2.0 is with a 2 year contract with AT&T. What if you wanted to buy one as a gift for someone. Then what?

I think there has been a misunderstood.
When I wrote about who will be the fastest send me a 3g iphone I didn't mean FOR FREE.
I just need a device to start testing.
I'll pay for it obviously.
Another approach is to just buy the iphone 3g with a contract and activate it, and just immediately end the contract. Then unlock it and use on your service of choice (obviously only when it's possible to actually unlock it). If the fee for breaking the contract early is is, say, $200, you're paying about as much as you paid before for an original iPhone. Mind you, I don't know what the actual fee is.
Zibri, since you are the iPhone guru, can u confirm or deny this rumour about purchasing the 3G iphone now requiring a contract. Is that why you want someone to send one to you?
I am waiting for the 2.0 patch Zibri! I have hope that you can make it work. Count me as a donator as soon as it is released!
I also think that there will be 3G phones showing up on eBay. It will be a way for companys that have networks to cash in on the Hype. Don't expect the $199 price though. I think they will exceed the 2G prices by double at first.

I am sure iPhone 3G will be unlockable. Apple will not block unlocking of the of the new iPhone. If it were not for unlocked iPhones, apple would still have abundant stock of iPhones in thier stores. It's only because of unlocking the demand is so high, and apple stores are running out of stock. Thanks to Zibri and everybody else involved in the efforts to unlock the iPhone.
i have beta 7 of the iphone firmware but i cant use it
the firmware version is not activated nor unlocked
and ziphone version 3.0c
(the newest version as far as i can see)
doesnt work at this firmware version . (hangs at 'entering recovery mode')

wow. Its incredible how stupid Steve is. Great a new iPhone...with what new features? Appstore (installer)? Gps (maps icon)? All he did was take a bunch of allready made ideas/things, whip out a new design (without the heavy want for a front camera or a better one). Congrats Mr Steve Jobs, you did something anyone could think of and said you and your team invented it. Ya right.
The funniest part is that he thinks it will sell, it will ONLY BECAUSE ITS NEW. Looking back on this five years from now the old iPhone will have better sales after one year. It will go into style, they'll pop out another with "ideas" which were stolen from third party places and put the apple logo on it.

Can anyone believe that apple would be so dumb that they will put a hacker resistant stuff and sell only to AT&T and lose all the worldwide customers? Does it make any sense why apple stopped (if not for a while) to sell the old iphone which sold more than hot cakes? Do you think apple would settle for less? I bet someone can decode it for sure.
hey zibri i just messed my first generation iphone after upgrading it to firmware 2.0. can not get a carrier support even after pwnage, coz its locked on the AT@T activation logo online.
i always use Ziphone tool to unlock and activate but now all hell has broken loose on my gadget.
man is there any good news about the new Ziphone that can unlock the firs generation iphone coz i dont wish to even downdrade.
