In the past few days I have been busy disassembling
and analyzing what we could call a "gold" 2.0 firmware.
I say gold because it's expiration date is the
4th of June so all features are there already.
Well 2.0 will not have MMS, not have cut & paste,
no new applications (guess why!). So, aside from exchange
support and appstore what did they change ? I'll tell you: security !
Yes, Apple tightened iPhone security (their security not yours)
a new crypto algo has been introduced
(and promptly defeated as expected).
No more "8900" files but IMG3. Firmware 2.0 will require
a new iTunes version and a new "mobiledevice" framework.
If it were for me I would not even bother to hack this version
but I know many of you are going to upgrade so I will release
a new ziphone version after the official release.
I already patched activation (lockdownd)
and unlock / Fake IMEI (baseband firmware).
To fully test this version I will need a Mac (I don't have one yet)
and thanks to the help of ModMyApple.it forum
I will probably have one soon.
About the 3G iPhone:
The 3G iPhone will share almost the same firmware
of the actual iPhone, so, again, no big news.
I wish the community could react to all this and start
developing on the actual firmware version but I know
that will not happen.
I am getting bored lately but even
if I received a big proposal to acquire ziphone
I will not let you down.
Please stop complaining about your bricked phone
if you used other methods.
And keep donating if you want this project to live.

I don't see this as all that bad. No cut and paste seems retarded, but to me the only real gotcha with the iPhone is no 3G and they are adding that. With custom apps and 3G the iPhone is leaps and bounds ahead of the rest. Thanks for your work. I used your jail break and will be donating. Do you think we will be able to find a work around for installing apps developed with the SDK without having to route them through the store?

What do you say - should we all wait with an upgrade a bit, till the community and developers react?
It's not unusual for Apple to leave some features out of beta versions... Look at what happened with Leopard, for example: no developer had the full-featured beta until official announcement...
Thanks for all you are doing. I love my phone jailbroken. Works flawlessly. I will liklely want to upgrade to 2.0 because I expect the killer apps will be in the apps store as developers will go where the money is. I jailbroke my phone only two weeks ago and have been somewhat disappointed that there aren't too many serious applications yet. Thanks again.

It's too sad to see the same great and wonderful technology can be used to lock the consumers down. So much for the "open" community apple is trying to portrait.

I shutter to think the alternative, if it wasn't for Zibri....have to live with what Apple wants me to use and with whom?...no way. I love Apple and its products, but I want the freedom to chose what carrier I want to use and what software I want to use.
There has been 3,000,000 downloads, if every person gives 10 cents, 50 cents or 1 dlls, per download, it would keep this project alive...and why not to give some well earn money to the guy doing the legwork.
That is my opinion...by the way I donated!!!

ibri, I restored a 1.1.1 phone to 1.1.4, used ZiPhone 3.0 to Unlock, Jailbreak & Activate, everything went well except the App.Installer will not install on the phone. How can this be fixed?? Thanks and good work!!

I am a big fan of your software. You are an evil genius. I just faced a small problem. The sound just become fainted and also the ringers don't respond the way they should. I mean if you go into the general sound settings and select the rings they won't play back the way they normally do. Also the phone did get unlocked and I put another foriegn sim and it worked fine. But the volume is somehow not loud enough any more. I have to do some research. I am thinking of restoring and doing it again. I mean Z-unlocking. Please guide me if I am the only one who faced this issue. reply @ apsheikh@gmail.com

Dear Zibri, you did a great work. I will visit the US in June and possibly I have a chance to purchase the old or the new 3 G iPhone, to take it with me to Germany and unlock it later on. I know that I need a lot of luck to get one, but in trust on your work I donated some days ago 10 EURO.

Why do you say you would not hack this version if it was for you? Is this version, 2.0, going to be much more difficult to hack? Are you getting bored? I LOVE my iPhone and the ability to use it with whoever I want! Your work is very valuable. Donation coming!

I just hope that mushkin guy offering zibri 1.5 mil, is not an apple employee. 1.5mil is a small price for apple to stop a great man like zibri. Although it seems like mushkin was fill of shit! Cant wait for the 2.0 unlock zibri. Btw don't you think apple will put some security feature(to provide hacking) last minute in the 2.0 firmware release, so the firmware that you guys have won't have all the security features on it yet

JKC, I think the only way is to open a Paypal account. It is very easy and costs you nothing. Also you can use this account for a save and quick money transfer, i. e. eBay or so on.
i mean 3g isnt even really around like crazy, not as available as a normal edge network and its not like your going to be downloading torrents and crazy size files to a 16gb iphone? how much use could the 3g really provide? i mean okay it would load a webpage faster hmm.. thats it? wow a whole 2 seconds less. Now if GPS was involved i would be considering buying another phone but until that happens im fine with my 1.1.2OTB
i update my iphone from itunes. I can not able to get back 1.1.4. even when i m trying to put the iphone in DFU or recovery mode i can not able to put that. and also it saw different kind of logo in DFU/recovery mode. Can u give me any suggestion to fix that? Thanks
